Kyo Kara Maoh & Dragon Keeper & Other Random Things
So I received my Kyo Kara Maoh DVDs this weekend and spent a good deal of time mainlining it as I lettered, which means I wasn't following it *too* closely. The DVDs are boots, which i suspected from the price, but it's a bit wonky because the box and the menus have that ineffable bootleg charm (the subtitle is misspelled on the box as God (?) Save Ur King and the active menu item glowy thing is usually some distance away from the actual menu item), but they've got the official English subtitles and dubs.
The story is decent, not going to win any major awards, but let's face it: you don't watch KKM for plot. You watch it for the crack. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that any anime is made immensely better by the inclusion of inflatable ninja sheep, and this series alone could fuel a huge cracktastic-bits generator. The crack content tends to dip a bit when it's trying to follow actual plot, but inevitably returns.
I'm not finished yet - I've just seen the episode where Yuuri's friend has disclosed some information about himself :D (around ep 30-31?), so no spoilers for me, plzkthnx.

Additionally, my most recent lunchtime book was Carole Wilkinson's Dragon Keeper, a fantasy YA book set in an ancient China with dragons. A young slave girl who works for the Imperial Dragon Keeper flees with one of the dragons. A fun read, and I recommend it particularly to
oyceter because the girl has a pet rat. :D

Am temtped to claim some art prompts for
springkink, but as it's mostly for A-Kon purposes and thus I need the results public in time for the co, it would be a Bad Idea to waste time on it at the moment. But if claims are still open after the con, maybe I'll do it.

Am also tempted to make a random story generator from
eliade's list o' fanfic kinks, tropes, and cliches, but as it's a rather NC-17 list in points, I'd need to work out a way to force people to go through a warning page before hitting the generator itself. I've got a few ideas on how to do that. Looking over the list, I think the logic involved in creating the generator itself would be similar to the Cool Bits generator.

Off to lunch now. Hopefully this entry will have garnered comments by the time I get back because I am bored at work today, but I fear that most of the friendslist have wandered off at the end of the semester and aren't reading or posting to LJ at the moment. :)

Thanks! Having a third set of eyes looking at it will help - I know there's things in PBR that escaped me and Rachel because we were both so intimately involved with the script. Mostly on the order of mechanical problems in the lettering. :)

Honestly. The writers never quite fully understood that the main appeal of the show was Gunther attempting to snuggle Yuuri's dirty clothes and the like, and just insisted on putting plot in to the ultimate detriment of the show.

Oh man, someone has an icon of that moment, and it's hilarious. I crack up everytime I see it. O Gwendal. He loves him some cute, that man. XD

I downloaded the first episode a couple of years ago, thought it was amusing, and forgot about it. I put it on my Netflix queue last year, watched the first 2 DVDs and fell in love with the crack, then got distracted by something shiny and forgot about it again until I watched the 3rd DVD. Whereupon I resolved to introduce

And it has really good continuity, in terms of plot, which you really get to see as things move along. Comes of being based on actual novels and FOLLOWING said novels closely, I would imagine. ;)

I'd start working on the data entry, except that I'm at work and I don't really want a file with all those terms sitting on my hard drive. :)

Cautionary tale: Once upon a time we had a little interactive FAQ feature on our agency's public website, built by an outside contractor. It included an HTML form for feedback.
A few weeks after it was posted, we got an e-mail in the webmaster mailbox saying that one of our pages had been blocked by a piece of NetNanny-type software. It was the feedback page.
Turns out that the overzealous contractor had wanted to spare our poor little Fed sensibilities and had set up some Javascript screening so that naughty words wouldn't be passed through the comments form to our virgin e-mailboxes. The trouble is, it was client-side Javascript ... so that all those naughty words were actually in the code for the page, even though they weren't visible ....
We decided we'd rather have cussin' and such in our incoming mail than have our pages blocked by parental guidance software!
So you never know what's looking for naughtiness on your systems ...

analysis, LOL! Ahh, those who search for dirt shall ever find it ... .

Mind you, "we'd never know" isn't really true - all spam gets flagged and sent to the head of Systems, who checks it to make sure nothing's accidentally blocked - I suppose it's possible that someone may be requesting a book or article on Viagra or Cialis - and sends it on to its appropriate recipient if it is.

Also, ooo, I think I actually have that Wilkinson on my shelves somewhere. I will move it up the to-be-read list now.

Maybe an "AU" fanart in which they're both truck drivers? I think that deserves its own doujinshi anthology. WHO'S WITH ME?!?! (if you do a kink story generator, plz to include truck drivings)
Also I can't help but love Wolfram, who is a brat, but who is also the sweetest brat ever with his pink nighty. He is so unapologetically himself that he has my deepest respect, and although I am not prone to going AWWWWW unless there's puppies or kitties, Wolfram is as cute as puppies. My love for him is platonic until he grows up, however...I bet he will be very pretty.

I was first introduced to KKM over in a thread on fandom_wank somewhere, with the words "Bitchiest. Uke. Ever." linked to a picture of Wolfram. I also warmed up to him as the series progressed. :D

I tried to get my brother to watch KKM, telling him there was yuri in it.
Wouldn't you know-- he doesn't trust me! And he went and looked it up! And he was all, "Those are all dudes."

BTW, I don't suppose you might know where I could track down a bunny doll like Nii's? *hopeful look*
Thread Necromancy!
I've been watching bits of the next season online, and I must say... I don't mind the plot attempts. Sure, the crack is fun and probably some of my favorite stuff comes of it, but I do like to see our characters changing.
Gotta love Wolfram. He's growing up while keeping some of his bratty tendencies... if only he weren't doomed to unrequited love (as I see it, anyway).

I'm a little sad that Season 3 is currently the end of the series. Not sure how effective online petitions will be, but I kind of doubt a 4th season will come of it. There's some OVAs floating around I hear, though I don't think they've made it to DVD yet.
