The weirdness of cats...

Everyone who owns cats know that they're all deeply weird in their own personal ways. Take today, for instance. I went out to get more catfood, since they're predicting actual snow tomorrow (snow! in Texas! in April!) and if any of it touches the ground, the drivers are all going to start crashing into each other. I wanted to get another brand to see if her frequent barfing was a response to the food she usually eats (no, it's not any of the recalled stuff). You're supposed to mix it together if you're introducing a new food, in order to get the cat to accept it.

My cat? I had to push her out of the way to get the old stuff into the bowl. :)

And also - if you had a choice of two boxes on the floor in which to sit (and if you're a cat, not sitting in a box is just not an option), and one of the boxes was far too small for your fluffy ass and the other was just the right size to contain a cat, which one would you choose?

She was originally in the smaller box, and after she shifted position for the third time in as many minutes, and tried to lie sideways in the box, I took pity on her and fetched the cat-sized box. She got into it for a few minutes, but shortly thereafter abandoned it for the old box, as you see above.

Just to show you that's not fur that's overflowing, that's solid cat:

One wonders sometimes how we've warped their kitty lives from what they're meant to be, that they've all become so strange ...

Cute. My cats like to make forts of the boxes and defend them from the other cats. When I first saw the last picture I thought the kitty but had ripped open the box.

Cats are utterly amazing.

People don't own cats, cats own people. I do so enjoy a good self-sufficient, condescending animal.

If they're so self-sufficient, how come they cry whenever we leave the room and they can't figure out where we are? :-)

Okay, maybe that's just my cats ...

My cat does that too. He can't stand for me to be out of sight for the 30 seconds it takes to change clothes after work without starting up.

[identity profile] janni.livejournal.com 2007-04-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And the older cat--she's stopped gently meowing or crying when we leave the room. She yowls her "the world is ending!" yowl!

Hee! Mine saves that for when I haven't answered his pleas for food within his acceptable time frame. And they told me at the shelter that he was a "quiet cat, doesn't talk at all."

Yes, oh god, we know (http://pics.livejournal.com/dissimulatory/pic/0000g08k/).

Yeah, I used to wonder why mine was so quiet as a kitten, worried about whether she'd ever meow.

As you can tell, she was my first cat. I don't worry about them being too quiet anymore!

OMG DED

My cat seems to enjoy loving one kind of cat food for several months and then refusing to eat that brand and only wanting another brand. She also begs for tuna (when I get a can out for me) and when I give in and put some on a plate for her, she turns up her nose.
Cats really are just plain weird.

Mine's very very interested in everyting I do in the kitchen. Until I give her a sniff of whatever it is, and then she gets offended and runs off.

Cats are experts at finding the best places to snuggle. Big boxes are not cuddly, says kitty!

Hee! I am very impressed that she managed to get all of herself in there.

Cats are crazy. I think that's a large part of why I like them so.

Heehee, my cat likes Amazon boxes as well.

What a cute kitty. O_O I love cats, but alas, I can't have one right now...But He had one a long time ago and so I do know myself that they are crazy...Back then, it was missing for days and we searched everywhere we could think off...And then one morning our neighbour asked: "Is that your cat?" And there it was, sitting on the roof...

Oh man I laughed so hard when I saw the box pictures. My cat does exactly the same thing! If I leave my dresser drawer open a tiny bit, she jumps in there and sort of oozes out the sides. If I see this and go to open it all the way for her, she jumps out and acts offended. "I'm a size four, thank you very much!"

The weirdest thing my cat ever did. . .I was eating cereal standing up next to the kitchen table because I was in a hurry. She jumps up on the table and starts getting up on her hind legs, reaching her front paws out to my bowl. She carried on like this the entire time I was eating my cereal, and when I put my bowl down on the table so she could drink the milk, she just sniffed at it and then started scratching around the bowl like it was her litter box. She will also go into the bathroom and scratch at the walls after she uses the box instead of burying her business.

I should put up a shot of Isis in my longbox lid...
