60 min. 10.8 mi. Total: 255.8. Crossed the Great East Road, heading into thickets.

Oh, man my butt's numb. But I watched Top Design and half of Mythbusters with no guilt. :)

I notice you tend to exercise in the evenings. Do you find it harder to fall asleep? I had read/heard it was better not to work out before bed, so I've been using my elliptical (just 2 days so far) in the morning before work. I know I've worked out in the evenings in the past, but I have always primarily done it in the AM. Just curious how it was affecting your sleep (maybe it helps!).

I usually do it shortly after I come home from work, so I've got time to calm down before I go to bed. The times I do it shortly before I go to bed, I havne't noticed much difference, but I've got a few different things going: I'm a night owl, so going to bed before midnight tends to be hard anyway, plus I'm taking Strattera, which has the dual problem of being a wee bit of a sedative, and also causing sleep disturbance. :) So I get really sleepy about 30 minutes after I take the Strattera, although it's fairly short-lived and if I can make myself stay awake for an hour, I can stay awake longer, but then I tend to have problems getting back to sleep if I wake up in the early morning. :) This semester there's been 5 or 6 times I jsut gave up and got up and watched TV or got online. I have to take the Strattera at night because it'll make me nauseated if I take it on an empty stomach, plus I don't want the sedative effect to hit when I'm in the car on the way to work.

It's getting better, though. I'm sensitive to sound in the morning, and I've found if I wake up early and grab an earplug and put it into the ear that's not pressed into the pillow, I usually go back to sleep. Otherwise early-morning noises like teh cat in the litterbox or my upstairs neighbor walking about as he gets ready for work (between 4:45 and 5:30), and cars outside keep me from going back to sleep.

I'm really trying to get into bed by 11 with lights out by 11:30 because the ADD symptoms lessen if I have a full night's sleep.

And to wind back to your question, soemtimes I think biking helps by tiring me out. :) I'll probably go to bed fairly early tonight, for a night when I don't have anyplace to be the next morning (usually I'be be up until about 2:30, but I think I may pumpkin before midnight.)

Speaking of numb butts....do you have extra padding on your bike? I'm good for about twenty minutes before numbness reaches critical mass. I've got a recumbent, and I've tried a pillow, but it isn't helping.

No, the extra padding's on my butt. *rimshot* Joking aside, nope. It's usually not a problem - it's numb, but not painfully so - for 20 or 40 minutes, because the soles of my feet or some sort of muscle or tendon along the back of my thigh, or the injured ligament in my knee starts hurting and is more of a concern. But 60 minutes was a bit much - it's still kinda numb now.

I'm not sure why it doens't bother me more, since sitting on the floor or other hard surfaces bothers me.

Huh. I think it must be the way I'm leaning back? I've seen some seat covers, but you know me. I'm cheap.

My knee is finally getting well enough that I can bike for longer bouts, so maybe that's why it hasn't bothered me before now....

No way I could handle sixty minutes, though. That's awesome! Go you! I know you've really been racking up the mileage. I love these posts of yours because they're very motivating. :D

Whee! Something must be happening, because I know I wouldn't ahve even considered biking for 60 minutes back in January when I started. And especially not at tension level 3. Which is still fairly wimpy but hey, it's better than 2. :D

It is getting easier to keep going for 40 minutes, or to do something else in addition to or instead of the bike, so I'm improving in some fashion, although I don't feel like anything's changed.
