Spent today with Helen and Alistair working on her project. It's an educational website dealing with Shropshire history, especially Oswestry to start with.
First the site is funded half by a West Midlands Libraries challenge fund and half by the Shropshire Archives as a matching grant - they match with funds or in kind. Helen says she's spent the first 4 week oing administrative stuff : schedules, projections, funding, personnel, content management systemas and so on. She's working with the Natioinal Archives to an extent and they offered to pay for an educational consultant for a couple of days.
We toured the archives and saw the resources available like photos, parish records, maps, watercolors, postcards, newspapers and so on.
Then I worked on a brochure for teachers explaining the project and what it can bring to them.
Alistair and I worked with HTML-Kit, a web-writing program. I also taought him abouit CSS. We worked on the initial pages for the site. We also met and discussed how to structure the WW I and WW II section of the site. It will be divided into 3 sections, evacueess, home front, nd front line. They have some accounts from people there at the time. I suggested a form where people could enter their own experiences and Helen liked it because part of the bid was that the project would be contributed to by the poublic. Also a section that pointed out the differences between the 2 wars.
We talked about project manager stuff and she promised to email me some info from a course she took, and I said I'd email her what I had from the systems analysis class.
