Yo, [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija!

Steven Brust says:

(a) he remembers you

(b) on learning that you're still in LA, that you should move back to the States

(c) that he had the hots for you.

Tell him

b) That's rich from a man who lives in Las Vegas.

c) He can buy me a glass of Tokay any time.

...Did you tell him about my memoir?

Know him? I can see him from where I'm sitting right now!

He's a guest at ConDFW, and he is sitting with Patrick and Teresa Nielsen Hayden in the bar right now, waiting for food. I am at the "Business Center" which consists of a computer behind a short retaining wall on the other side of the lobby. I'm the Nielsen Haydens' guest host (which means I make sure they've got what they ened and drive them anywhere if they need it), and they're good friends with Brust, so I've talked a wee bit with him today.

Are you anywhere near Dallas? www.condfw.org Brust is here all weekend, he's very friendly and approachable. :)

I wish I could. *sigh*

My all-time favorite book is Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grill.

The man is a genious.

I first met him because I'm friends with Emma Bull and Will Shetterly (it's all name-dropping all the time around here), and later was on a panel with him at a convention. I can't remember the exact topic of the panel, other than that it had something to do with writing, but I do remember this exchange:

Person in Audience: Do you feel that you write for pee-dents?

Steve: I guess all writers write for peanuts.

PiA: Educated, picky people-- pee-dents!

Steve: Oh! You mean pedants. Do I write for pedants...? No.

Didn't tell him about the memoir - I'll talk to him again shortly and tell him (don't want to interrupt their dinner right now). :)

He sez:

b) Touche!

c) and d) HeythatsgreatIneedadrink *off to bar* (It was after a rather long reading and Q&A session.) :)

Highlights of the latter?

Yes, Doc Holliday is his parrot. Considering how rare it is for authors to bear any resemblance whatsoever to the characters of their books (unless their books are about near-sighted, middle-aged people), I was enchanted to see, when I first met him, that he had a piratical moustache, was wearing a leather tricorn, and had a small winged speaking animal on his shoulder.

Sorry, didn't attend it - rather desperately neeed to get dinner. From what I udnerstand, he read from his story in the new Thieves' World anthology, then TNH interviewed him for an hour. :) Wanted to see it but not passing out from lack of food took precedence. :)

Brust and PNH will be jamming tonight at 8:00. We've got guitars and amps and everything for them.

Oh - I found a girl who looks a lot like Push, who is local to me, and has done figure-model type stuff before, and who is willing to do it if I need usch in a few months time. I'll send you the pic I took with a cameraphone on Monday (I can't get it off the phone except at work :).
