I feel like a total idiot now. Woke up, still had this headache that's been dogging me since Thursday night, and declared it a migraine. Decided to eat before taking the Relpax, and also refilled the pill bottle I keep in my bag since this was the next-to-last one in there. The headache never got any better, and two hours later I stopped watching TV and took Advil, figuring it must have been a bad tension headache and not a migraine.

And just now put a hand in my robe's pocket and discovered the Relpax that I was going to take after breakfast. :/

Ow. *Sends feel better vibes*

'Tis much better now. :) I am hoping that the migraine-lassitude that accompanies these things gets better - yesterday I set to work getting more thumbnails done on Spindrift ([livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's and my Next Thing) and ended up getting a total of two pages doen in twelve hours, because I spent so much time looking things up about wushu and kalaripayattu on Google Images and YouTube. It'd take me, like, an hour to find the proper thing to use as reference for one panel and to do it. And now I ahve megs and megs of videos and photos and screencaps of Chinese and Indian martial arts. :/ (http://magatsu.net/gallery/v/Kalaripayattu/ for kalaripayattu pics - I adore the matter-of-fact expression on the face of the woman in the sixth and eighth pictures. XD)

Yay to feeling better! Migraines suck.

That's a great expression. I love how calm she is. Very cool mid-air shots, too.

I blew several hours the other day searching out reference photos, then I set my models in the poses, and drew and drew all to decide that I was going to something Completely Different. Art, how I love thee. I really need to get better at mental anatomy.

Decided that after doing thumbnails for half the book and yearning to try to copy the inks in One Thusand and One Nights, to draw a picture of the two main characters instead (which necessitated much more searching for reference, naturally).

Did I manage to ink like the manhwa? No, I managed to ink like I always do. :D naturally.

(I found a copy of the scanning & halftone book, 3rd edition and everything, on eBay. Provided no one snipes me, in about ten minutes I shall have a copy for $15 + $3 shipping.... *crosses fingers*)

Heh. I love how that goes. I've finally got a moratorium on buying reference books....for now. Heh.

This week I'm trying to learn to ink like Dr. Ten. We shall see. I have high hopes that her hair is easier to do. I'm still trying to figure out what, exactly, I should draw.

I want to do manwha style in another couple weeks--I have a drabble I want to do in Demon Diary or Boy Princess style. It's a Ten/Ken drabble by Oyce.

(Oooh, that's great price! I think I paid about 3x that.)

I was looking through my ILL copy of the book here at work, and decided that I wanted to own it. XD

I am torn on the inking style I'm going to pretend that I'm going go emulate for Spindrift - do I want something subtler, with thinner lines, like Mushishi, or do I want something bolder, like One Thousand and One Nights? Not that I can actually do either one, and it's going to end up looking like my inking always does, but I am at least optimistic.

(I won it! I own it! Wheeeeee!)

Yay for winning the auction, I suck at Ebay bidding; I always lose or pay too much.

I'm trying to push myself to try different styles. I've really enjoyed some manwha recently and you're inspiring me to go buy more. So elegant and flowing, but bold; they do the eyes so differently. And I secretly (well, okay, not so secretly) adore the messy expressiveness of Junjo Romantica. And then I read MeriPuri and think, wow, I'd love to be able to do that (except, you know, without the creepy underage bit). I suspect I'll never be good at the truly spare shojo style, much as I love it.

Same here. Although what I'd really like to do is the serious ink work in things like Qwan, Mushishi, and Blade of the Immortal, with lots of hatching and such. I seem to be genetically incapable of doing that, for some reason. What I need is some sort of class in pen and ink to force me to sit there and practice it instead of getting impatient at my inability to draw parallel, thin lines and going on to the next panel.

What have you been using as ink, pen, and paper?

I tried to do the How To Pen and Ink course a couple times with various media and failed, failed, failed. The technical pens were especially bad--they tended to skip or go slightly off. I am able to do the cross hatching with Deleter #6, G nib, and 135kg manga paper (Ic or Deleter, but not the thinner stuff, it tears with special effects). I had been sure that I would never be able to do that sort of stuff.

Mostly technical pens on various papers. :) And generic writing pens on notepad paper, when I'm stuck in boring meetings. XD

There you go. It isn't your genetics at all! :) I swear, it's night and day difference.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
XD I'll have to try that, then.

Argh. It's so cruel that migraines not only hurt like hell and pretend, in the early stages when you can treat them most effectively, to be something else - but they steal your brain as well. Grr.

Hope you feel better very soon!

AGH. Hearty, hearty sympathies. Me, I'm flying Air Frova today.

Well, at least now you know it's not psychological. . .:/
