Bike!

Just did twenty minutes on the new exercise bike - the bottoms of my feet and whatever-it-is behind my knee that always hurts when I ride a bike were hurting, but that should all go away as I get used to it. [livejournal.com profile] tammylee, you'll be happy to know that the loudest thing on it was the noise of my jeans as the cuffs hit the plastic bit containing the machinery as I cycled.

3.1 miles; if I were, say, cycling from Bag End to Rivendell, I'd have just crossed The Water.

Awesome! I will have to check that out then! (And look into drilling an extra hole so C. can use it too.)

That webpage is my new meter for travel.

Check the hardware, too, if you get that brand - the carriage bolts that came with is were 5 mm too long, and the lock nuts wouldn't, since they were lock nuts, screw down any tighter. So I had to make an 8:45 PM trip to the hardware store, luckily really close, to get new nuts-n-bolts for it. And the electronic thingy that tell you how far you've gone is a bit cheap-ass wonky: it won't turn on when I press the button, but when I pop open the battery cover and poke the batteries, it comes on and works fine after that. That's not necessary for me, although it's kinda nice to see how far I've gone.

Oh - and they didn't include any instructions for putting the bike together, but I found the manual on the Stamina website, which has the instructions. Although I'd probably have figured it out without them - it wasn't very hard. :)

That site is pretty good - they've got the whole trip to Mordor and back laid out so you can see how far you've walked/biked/skated/whatever. And it's nerdy and silly enough that I might stick with it for at least a little while. :D

Bah LJ just ate my post!
The website looks cute, but I think I would be doing the trip from The Hobbit instead. I need to exercise as well. I wonder if there is any random exercise equipment in my basement?

I was going to comment on how horribly geeky that site was, then I started calculating distance to my home town, and then wondering if bikes would be for shit in most of Middle Earth, so now I'm just going to shut up.

Go here, select The Geek Wants Out (http://www.ernestcline.com/spokenword/). Oh, and Nerd Porn Auteur.

Hell, buy his CD. Struggling artist and all that.

Omfg, I had the idea to try to walk from Bag End to Rivendell two years ago. That was nuts. Did ten miles in one day then decided I'd had enough health, thanks. I didn't realise sane people did that sort of thing.

Are you going to eat a frugal supper when you get a few miles farther? :D

There's a couple of people on my f-list doing it, and it adds that element of fun that I need in order to make myself do exercise. :D
