(no subject)

After a lot of cursing and only one trip to the hardware store to get the correct size of hardware, since the box helpfully came with the incorrect size, I now have a recumbent exercise bike and probably a lot of interesting new aches and pains. I am way too exhausted to actually ride it any tonight, though, but I had to walk about six times as far as I do on a normal day, as well as haul around large heavy pieces of recumbent bike, so I don't feel the lack of it.

I really should go to bed immediately, but I'll probably torpedo any chance of being awake at work tomorrow and instead watch an episode of QI before I crash.

Somehow I read "QI" and immediately made up the acronym "Queer Investigator" while trying to parse it.

I am very tired.

Well, the host is Stephen Fry, so you're partially correct (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QI). :D

I am also very tired, but the funny compels me.

Read Wiki entry. It looks like much love.

Also managed to misread "astronomy" as "sodomy."

Going straight to bed.

Where did you put the bike?

My living room is long and oddly shaped at one end, and shaped just perfectly so that it's impossible to set furniture up to utilize it all, so one end is beign used as more of an art-supply-storage area. It's over there, angled oddly so that I can see the TV from it. :)

Ooh! I hope you post about the bike, I'm very curious how a recumbent stands up (ha!) against the upright version.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-01-17 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been years since I used an upright version - my pelvis is not made to sit on a regular bike seat without serious pain, and once I hurt my back, the rounded position you sit in became pretty much impossible for me. I've used the recumbents in gyms, and they don't hurt my back at all, and are far easier to sit and read a magazine on. :)

Once I've got some time in on this one, I'll be able to see how it in particular works for me. It's a fairly inexpensive one - $179. Most of the others have fancy bells and whistles and cost, like, $500.

Oh! Excellent! Yes, the upright exercise bikes are hard on my back too even tho I ride a regular bike every summer. I guess with a regular bike I'm often standing up on the pedals or moving around?

Here's a wierd question, is your recumbant exercise bike very loud? I do have a concern about being too loud for my downstairs neighbours.

I haven't been on it long enough to really see, but the 30 seconds I used it were quiet, and the reviews on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000AMUFYY/ref=s9_asin_title/002-6121346-3136055) praised how quiet it was. You'll want to go through reviews or try one out in the store and see what it's like - I know someone who's returned one because it was too loud for him.

Thank you!

After all that worry, you didn't have to be awake at work today, what with campus closed because of the weather.

I know. :D I can stay home and watch QI and Time Team all day, now!

I want to watch QI and Time Team all day! But I have no TV :'(
