I've got about four hours of gameplay in on this game so far, and my opinion is that there is TOO MUCH FUCKING PLOT and NOT ENOUGH MONSTERBASHING so far.
I agree... I think that, while they do have a game that covers the story between KH1 and KH2, they need to do a PS2 version for Chain of Memories... I guess KH1.5?
Give it time though... after about 5 hrs. of the humongous exposition, we get back to our regular monster mashing. You'll love the story of KH2 once it picks up. Promise.
Aw, the first bit was one of my favorite parts. I cried a little when Sora got all teary eyed and didn't know why. I really wanted Roxas back, too, even though I love Sora to pieces. Kinda fell in love with the kid. :'( But then, I typically play games for their plot rather than their gameplay. I'm especially fond of point-and-click adventure games and those are little more than books with interaction. XD;
How many save points are there? In addition to the cut scenes, I've been lying on the floor twitching, and moaning, "Save point. Saaaaaaaaaaave point!" for the past hour. If I could just SAVE THE DAMN GAME MORE OFTEN, things would be a whole lot better, I tell ya.
KHII: Average play time, 40 hours. Percentage of that time cut scenes, 90%.
There's usually at least two save points in every dungeon or travel area (and orange one at the entrance that you can teleport to other orange save points from and a blue one right before the major bosses that just heals you). And there's always at least one in every town. Tons and tons of fighting and game playing in that game, but the story sort of suffers for it, in my opinion. Not that it was bad. Just that it wasn't as plot filled as the other Final Fantasy games. The game play was fun, at least.
I reccomend Okami. Only problem is there's not a super-amazing-bishie main character, since you're a celestial wolf god. I'm 26 hours into it and I want to quit my job to stay home and play.
Oh and the biggest problem about KH2 wasn't the amount of cut scenes, to me, but that the Disney worlds felt very pointless and like...like bad filler in anime. I love the KH series, I do, and KH2 was very good once it got to the point. But if they were going to force the Disney as much as they did, they should have made it serve a purpose like it did in KH1. :x
Not to be a wet towel, but it's very unlikely we'll get Final Mix over here. Squeenix had done a game like that for most of their RPGs since FFX and we haven't seen hide nor hair of any of them here. A few people got in contact with Squeenix America and the lady there said to keep emailing the company in support of a translation, but... I wouldn't get my hopes up. :\
Oh don't feel bad, I screamed get on the damn train for about twenty minutes. I was hoarse during most of the two hours it takes for the game to ACTUALLY start.
I liked KHII, but yeah, lots and lots of cutscenes make it painful. Although, I made the mistake of playing KHII before playing KH, and I liked Roxas so later I was all like "Who's this Sora goober and where did Roxas go? Roxas was cool! Put Sora back in the sleepy thingy and bring back Roxas!"

Haha. Yeah I've been watching my girlfriend play it over the break. Things started to pick up when she got out of that first city (after beating Vivi to death with the nurf thingy).
There are some cool Boss battles in the game later on too.

Also, never underestimate the power of Japanese fanartists to make super-amazing-bishounen/bishoujo characters out of whatever a game gives them.
