What did YOU get for Christmas? I got



a plane ticket to Japan!


OK, it was a promise of a ticket - my mom carefully drew a plane ticket on a piece of paper for me - because the dates of travel haven't been set yet, but I'm looking at heading over for about 2 weeks around the end of August because Worldcon is in Yokohama this year. I don't actually care too much for the con, so just a couple of days there to catch a couple of panels and fangirl in a scary fashion at Yoshitaka Amano, and then the rest of the time toodling around in a thoroughly touristy way with rachelmanija is my general idea.




I'm on my mom's laptop with its horrid laptop keyboard and dialup connection right now, so I probably won't read LJ until tomorrow evening after I get back up to Fort Worth and see how much the cat has destroyed and what crack-addled things the TiVo has suggested for me, and won't make a more substantial post about lactose-free pumpkin pie and doppelgangers (experienced twice in one day, even!) until then.

Although I should remind you that my birthday is the 29th and if you just happen to feel like giving me presents, I am totally there for you.

I think that showing up in time for Worldcon, then staying to tour would be better than showing up early and doing Worldcon last; the weather will be better, for one thing.

We wondered about this, but August is better for me to take off lots of work than September; and in case I hate Japan, I'll have Worldcon at the end! This is still tentative, but now that we know Chad won't be unemployed we're starting to gear up planning.

Having seen the majority of Kanazaw's tourist attractions several times over in just three months, I would much, much prefer to save your efforts and my sanity and head to Tokyo. Of course, if you'd like to come to Kanazawa again though, I'm perfectly happy to give you a reason to do so!
