Lineart example!:D
And ... lineart!
batwrangler was kind enough to send me a photo of a six-shooter that was very well-lit, with good lights and darks, so I used it to experiment with this tutorial. I spent a long time with an eraser and a pencil on cutting the gun out of its background, then did the tutorial, then after all the steps were complete, spent some time erasing the random dots and squiggles, and then using a copy of the original image below the line art, erasing more lines that didn't make sense, and redrawing lines that needed to be ther but got messed up.
After that, I adjusted the Threshold to get rid of any grayscale, and then converted it to bitmap using Image - > Mode -> Bitmap at 1200 dpi, to make the picture about 7" wide at 1200ppi - in other words, it's huge, but if you're drawing a Western for Tokyopop and need an enormous picture of a six-shooter, they require the resolution be 1200ppi, so that's what I did. You can always shrink it, since it's not toned.
Here's a jpg for the Web display:

So ... anyone need to draw a Sanzo? :D
If you want to see the final file, there's a 70K zip file here that will unzip to a 5.5ish MB .bmp of the gun.
If you ahve no idea what I'm talking about, check my previous few posts, or click on either of the tags and read the previous posts.
