Update on the doujinshi search...

Later on down that page, it shows a doujinshi by Aileen called "Vacation" -

I mean, LOOK AT THIS ART.

There seems to be a lot of really good doujinshi, artwise, on this stie - I'm going to ahve to poke around and see what I can find, and compile a list of circles.

Mmm, doujinshi. I collect doujinshi mostly from videogames (and mostly gen/gag too, which is a bit difficult XD) and a few of my fandoms have VERY comprehensive sites run by hardcore collectors, giving circle info, story reviews, etc. The tri-Ace games I follow even have official Square-Enix published collections (with FURIGANA so my friend can READ THEM TO ME OMG).

I still want to go to Japan and buy more, though. D: Other than said official collections, it's really really hard to find doujin for the games period. Let alone ones that aren't smut (nothing against it, but it's not my thing).

I don't have much doujinshi - since I can't read the stories, I like to collect by the art, and as I'm an art snob, there's not much out there that I like. :) I'm trying to track down Aileen's work, because it's some of the best (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/telophase14/25.jpg) I've (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/telophase14/26.jpg) seen (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/telophase14/36.jpg) in the Death Note fandom.

I can't read them either, but hey. XD That's one reason why I collect gag doujinshi, because most of the time I can figure out what's going on roughly by the visual jokes.

The only time I managed to identify and keep collecting stuff by one particular circle was in Xenogears fandom. I have all of four doujinshi from that series, and three of them are from the same circle. Bought the first one randomly 'cause the art was pretty, and it ended up being hilarious, so the rest followed.

The fourth one was bought for me in Japan, and too late did the giver discover it has the fluids everywhere. XD; I'm sending that on to someone who'll appreciate it more than me.

I would imagine the art thing would be more stringent in the DN fandom, since Obata's art sets such a high standard to begin with. I do the same with Saiyuki doujinshi. Not so much with the videogames... especially the older ones, because most things are better than sprites. ;)

The art in DN fandom is interesting - most of it is acceptable, but not outstanding, and most of them take Obata's character designs and adapt them to their own, usually far more shoujo, styles. Nobody attempts the backgrounds. :) The closest I've found is Aileen, who avoids them most of the time, but occasionally does one (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/telophase14/14-1.jpg). She's also better at L and Light than the other characters, and has a few panels here and there where she gets the proportions off, but not really badly.

The really interesting thing is that all dj art is, of course, up and down in each book, but that since I have drawn one read enough DN and analyzed the art, I can recognize when they're copying directly from a panel instead o working the pose themselves. And those are usually the panels that are better. :D They're not tracing, but looking at a panel and replicating the pose which I did, and the same thing happened to me. Aileen doesn't copy, as far as I can tell, which makes the artwork more consistent, which is one of the reasons I really like her work.

You can see why I'm desperate to find more. XD I put a search into ebay for "doujinshi aileen" to ensure that it mails me if anyone lists any. Come to think of it, maybe I should add one for "dojinshi aileen" as well, just to ensure I don't miss any due to different romanizations...

(DAMN YOU LJ, THIS COMMENT EXISTS! I WISH TO REPLY TO IT!)
