Crazy, crazy, crazy

I have a crazy amount of Gmail invites at the moment[1]. If you've been under a rock for the past six months and don't have a Gmail email account and want one, comment here with an email address.

[1] Crazy, I'm telling you.

Heh, I was wondering goodness, how many could you have? Then I checked my 2 gmail accounts - I have 50 each. YEEK! They must be about done with beta testing, don't you think?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have four accounts ... *whimper*

(Used primarily for storing backups of stuff and separated out by areas of endeavor. I'd never remember to check more than one account if I used them for email purposes.) :)

PS - do you know anyone who might be interested in guest hosting one of the majors at ConDFW? We're still looking.

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I figure we're bad options for guest hosting, because we'll be chasing kids during the weekend. Did you ask on the ORAC mailing list?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not on the ORAC mailing list, hence, no. :) Plus I'd like someone I somewhat know to tell me: yes, this person is reliable and isn't going to flake out halfway through the con or fanboy/girl said guest, and so on.

Hey, is the schedule for the con going up any time soon? 'Cause at the moment I'm wondering if I even have reason to go - the author I wanted to see cancelled, I figure budget as it is, [livejournal.com profile] selenite won't want me going into the dealer's room or art show, & I haven't heard of anyone I know throwing room parties or coming from out of town. Starting to feel kinda bummed.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
:( Well, you'll be missed if you don't come. :)

As far as the schedule -- the programming guy is /supposed/ to be working on a preliminary schedule this weekend, to be hopefully posted early next week. The problem is that the programming guys (and many of our guests)cut their con teeth on AggieCon, where nobody care about teh programming and it's done the week of the con, so the programming guys don't think it needs to be done early, and the guests are now trained to not get us their schedules and preferences until the last minute. At least, that's what's going on as far as I can tell. My repeated badgering of them (because *I* get all the email complaining about a lack of schedule, since info@condfw comes to me) failed to produce anyt improvement for three years, so I now just forward all email inquiries on to them.

[identity profile] fascinoma.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a drekload of Gmail invites and can't give 'em away to save my life

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. They're valueless like pesos, in a way. Or zombies, in that THEY KEEP COMING.

I posted on my DA account - I got rid of eight that way last month. We'll see if anybody else wants any.

The rocks I live under...what is gmail? E-mail for G-men?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Google's email service. Pretty good, actually. You get a full gig of storage space (hence why I use some gmail accounts for storing backups of things), and you can search your email like you search Google, and it stores messages in threaded format, so you don't have to go searching back through your old email to get an older message.

I got an approximate metric buttload o'invites, so if you want an account to play around with, just give me an email address (a throwaway Yahoo or Hotmail if you don't want to post a real address here in case spambots pick it up), and I'll send ya one. And a few days after you create it, they'll give /you/ a kajillion invites to send to others...

[identity profile] espion.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm, nifty. I could send pictures with it....

die_heilung@hotmail.com

In return, here is a nifty bit of my day (only because it is so zany...I'm not so ego-centric that I think everyone wants to hear about my day, heh)

Today we had a walk-in come in with a written confession.

He had committed homicide.

Yes, he confessed to killing Alexander Hamilton. He emphatically pressed that Aaron Burr had nothing to do with it. He had, in fact, hidden behind a tree and shot Alexander Hamilton without anyone knowing it. There you have it, folks, Aaron Burr is innocent. He said he's been carrying this around with him for many years (I'll say!) and he desperately needs to get it off his chest.

So there you go. I can't wait until the guy that killed JFK comes in.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sent! I know that Yahoo sends Gmail invites to the bulk mail folder, so if it doens't show up in your main inbox, try whatever Hotmail's equivalent of the bulk mail/spam folder is.

And I must say that I am quite relieved to have the question of who killed Alexander Hamilton cleared up. I always thought the Aaron Burr story was fishy.

PS - I know homicide technically has no statute of limitations, but I think we could apply one in this case. ;)
