Google ads...

As those of you with Gmail know, it puts Google ads based on keywords to the side of message threads and sometimes they're quite interesting. Today's crop, from the message thread relating to the BPAL decant circle, has...

I want to know how they make it. Or, on second thought, maybe I don't.

Maybe it's like "baby oil."

But, really, how often do you need to oil your emus?

Er. Hmm. Whenever they start squeaking a lot?

If they're yellow, green or blue, though, they're actually chocobos and all bets are off.

EMU OIL?

I... what do you use that for?

[identity profile] frostedelves.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's for when you need to lubricate your squeaky or rusty emu!

[identity profile] grendelity.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
What, you didn't click the link? I'm disappointed.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I did click the link!

It told me I could trust Australian emu oil and had a photograph of part of Australia and a photograph of an emu! And a bunch of products that utilize 100% Pure Emu Oil! Which I can get, let me inform you, in a 55-gallon container for only $3850 each.

[identity profile] grendelity.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if there's one thing that I need in my life, it's a 55-gallon container of emu oil. Let me tell you.

What were some of the products? O_o [Do I want to know?]

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh, think I could organize a decant circle?

Cutting-and-pasting from the webpage, making sure to preserve the color highlighting:

Nutritional Supplements - includes White Emu Pure Emu Oil gelcaps (with Vitamin E), Organic Vegetable capsules, Vitamin & Mineral Liquid, and MSM joint Health Supplements.

Emu Oil-based Soothing Cream Products - includes the world-famous Super Blue Stuff Quick Soothing Lotion (12-packs and 1,500-pack sample cases), White Emu Quick Soothing Lotion and Foot & Leg Comfort products.

and

Products made with Pure Emu Oil - includes Smooth-N-Slender firming gel and loofa scrub, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hand Cream - all fortified with Pure Emu Oil. Many products available in single quantities and 12-pack wholesale quantities!

The nutritional supplements seem to give "energy" and nothing else more concrete, which is technically correct in that fats are a source of quick energy, but probably not in the sense they want us to believe. :)

[identity profile] grendelity.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Egh. Those are all kind of horrifying prospects. 'Cause, I mean...if those are all the products with emu oil in them, then what would you do with a tub of raw oil? Other than "make stuff," my mind can only supply really perverted thoughts, so I'll stop there. ^_^;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It may appeal to certain specialized tastes which I really don't want to consider...

[identity profile] badnoodles.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, my curiosity got the better of me. I had to know where Emu Oil came from. My extensive research of the intertubes has divulged that emu oil is not really oil at all, but low-viscosity emu grease. Fat from slaughtered emu is melted & filtered and packaged - then you slap it on your face.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And a 55-gallon drum of it is only $3850. WHAT A BARGAIN.

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Emu oil is an excellent carrier for essential oils; I can see why it's there.

[identity profile] matildarose.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
And just in case someone you know starts using Emu Oil....

http://greatinventions.tv/products/110.php

SnifferStick! Because no one wants to walk into a room of Emu Funk.

My Albedo icon disturbingly gets a lot of usage.

The ads I get from my RP journals are all kinds of special.
