Death Note anime...

I downloaded it, and have watched the first five minutes, but deem my need for a shower before I go to bed more pressing than the rest of the episode (heresy, I know). I will be SORELY DISAPPOINTED if we don't have fandom wars over whether L is supposed to ahve black hair (manga) or blue hair (anime).

I'd say OMG DUN SPOIL ME, but it's rather pointless. XD If you feel the need to squee or dis in the comments here, go ahead. As long as you're PAYING ATTENTION TO ME I don't mind.

ETA: DAMMIT LJ, FIX THE DAMN TIMESTAMP. Mello really hates it when the timestamp is wrong. But L will remove his pants anyway.

I downloaded the first episode as well, to see what the hype is about. I've never read the manga. I'm so out of the fandoom that, at one point, I though 'Light' and 'Raito' were two different characters.

I am prepared to be shot.

I found it interesting. I shall continue to download as long as it keeps me entertained :D

Where does L come in, anyway? And why the fsck is this guys' name Light? Who names their child Light?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, at least you missed the Fandom Wars - still ongoing - about Light vs Raito.

L comes in before too long - Light goes on his killing spree and Interpol brings in the great, mysterious detective L to solve the crime. :) I'm not sure how many episodes it'll take - he didn't fully show up until somewhere around chapter 8-11 in the manga, although we got hints and bits and pieces before.

And why the fsck is this guys' name Light? Who names their child Light?

Welcome to the Wacky World of Ohba, the manga writer with a serious tin ear for English. "Light" has a point to it - it's supposed to be Deeply Symbolic about his megalomania, but none of the other names do, and there are some serious ringers in there, leading up to the monument of ROFLMAO that is "Quillsh Wammy."

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
I can never decide which is worse, Quillsh Wammy or Eralso Coil.

[identity profile] homasse.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
I still stand by my theory that the writer chose names by either dropping her cat on the keyboard or by throwing darts blindfolded at a giant alphabet on her wall.

Sadly, you are not alone... I also thought the same thing for awhile +_+
Then it's like... how could I have not figured it out sooner.. Raito = Engrish Light

[identity profile] taer-silveroak.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm.... I have not seen the anime, but the manga kept be riveted. I'd suggest at least sneaking a read of the first volume at your local national chain bookstore.

But his hair isn't blue in the anime ...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's blue in the credits.

[identity profile] taer-silveroak.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Credits are another dimension, altogether.

[identity profile] frostedelves.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
That explains why people get naked in the credits that never get naked anywhere else hello, Escaflowne TV series.

Does this mean naked L in the Death Note credits? :D

[identity profile] taer-silveroak.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Oh my... nekkid, and probably munching/nibbling on something sweet.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
We can only dream.

[identity profile] dusk.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Raito's eyes glow red in the credits, too. Lol.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
They glowed red for a bit during the first dissolve from Ryuk's eyes to Light's. :)

[identity profile] rayechu.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Is it really blue in the normal anime? I thought it was just colored all artsy for the opening and ending animation.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
All I've seen is the opening credits and five minutes of the first ep, and that's all I was basing this post on.

[identity profile] rayechu.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Then I would doubt it really is blue as the opening has Light's hair as red, but in the body of the anime it isn't. I really think it was just an artsy thing.

[identity profile] rayechu.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I thought maybe you had seen a screencap/ preview of the next episode somewhere online. I haven't seen the entire episode myself, as it keeps crashing.

Allo.

[identity profile] droiche.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
*pays attention to telophase* ^_^

I haven't experienced Death Note yet. ODD is really slow to catch up with the loop. =-P

Re: Allo.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Whheeeeeeee! Someone's paying attention to me!

The manga's fairly good, with pacing problems and OMG SQUEE art. Worth a look. :)

Okies. *adds to ever growing honeydo list* Y'know, I wonder if there's any 80-yr-old otaku out there. 'Cause it's going to take me that long to get to everything I want to dooooooooo. =-P

[identity profile] taer-silveroak.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh pantsless Mello... hate me in wild abandon, you fool.

[identity profile] tgreywords.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
*pays attention!*

My friend recently bought the beautiful Blanc et Noir (?) artbook, it has some gorgeous, gorgeous Death Note arts, yummy yummy.

Yeah, L's hair is only blue in the opening because it's all stylistical, or something.

I will say that so far I'm impressed. It has the "oh, long conversations and Light talking to himself, yay!" problem, but that's kind of inevitable in a faithful adaptation. Which this is, by and large, so far.

And they do an excellent job of adapting Obata's art. Yay.

[identity profile] pzb.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like others have said, L's hair is only blue because of the stylistic opening... Light's eyes go red several times within the ep....

I did like the episode, though it's been quite a long time since I read the first chapters. But I think, assuming it holds out, the music is awesome (dunno...something about the whole choral aspect to Light's god-complex just fit so well) and the animation seemed to work well...so far. :D

I think I'll make final judgements once L comes in....
