BPAL review: Chaos Theory III - DX

This is a special bottle - the Chaos Theory series is a series of one-offs, where every single bottle is different, and combined according to whim. You pays yer money and you takes yer chances.

I have another one coming also, because the last time I placed an order (for Harvest Moon) I'd forgotten that I'd placed an order for Hungry Ghost Moon and Chaos Theory, so I put a CT order with the Harvest. Which I'm all OK with, because I love grab bags and things like that. XD

This arrived just today, along with Hungry Ghost Moon, and although I'm waaay behind on my review-posting, I figured you guys might be as interested as I was to find out what I got.

Chaos Theory III: DX (510)

BPAL description: From the LE - Chaos Theory III: Strange Attractors collection. Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, and exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. Most common allergens have been omitted from the experiment. No pennyroyal, no nuts, no cinnamon, no cassia. Regardless, if you have any sensitivities, please do not participate in Chaos Theory.

In vial: Cherry? Not cough-syrup, though. Something vaguely boozy, too.

Wet: Something soft, almost a powder but not quite. The cherry-ish scent is there, still a deep cherry and not a cherry blossom

Dry: The cherry has faded, and left behind a soft, powdery wood, almost with a sweet fruity hint just barely there. I'd probably categorize it as a soft, powdery cherrywood.

Notes: It's a Yes with the cat! I rather like it, although I don't think it'll be one of my favorites - it fades too quickly on me. I'll probably trade or sell a couple of imps with people who want to try it.

Oo, oo, Chaos Theory! My birthday splurge for myself *is 25 today, oh noes* was a bottle of CTIII and an imp pack. Here's hoping I get something foody, foody, foody...

XD I'm happy that it worked fairly well on me - I'll have to try it out on the inside part of my collar the way I do with other scents that fade fairly quickly and see how the cherry smell holds up.

If I start hoping that my next bottle is amber/orris then it'll be black musk, I just know it. XP I may even splurge on one more bottle of it for the next order I do, if the next moon sounds good.

A friend I'm visiting tonight who wants to try BPAL is allergic to many, many things but most especially nuts: she can't put them on her skin without a bad reaction. I think the general plan is for her to sniff the imps, compile a list of the ones she wants to try, and then email the Lab with her list o'known allergens and ask which ones she should avoid.

I have a number of scents that fade quickly on me - do you mean the collar of your shirt, or collarbone?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
My shirt. I put it on the inside in case it stains, plus that way it'll rub against my skin every so often. :D I've done the same on the inside of my cuffs, too.

Clever! I think I will try that sometime.

Thank you! ^.^

Besides the CT bottle, I'm getting imps of Drink Me, Bengal (I hear it smells like chai...), Yemaya and Obatala. Let's see if I'll get the summer scents before summer is up!

My favorite BPAL has the misfortune of being Miskatonic University, and naturally I got into it way, way after it was available for sale. pwned.

I've got an imp of Drink Me and haven't officially testedit yet, although it smells like toffee in the imp to me. Eat Me smells in the vial *exactly* like the descripion. I got it on a whim, because BPAL baked-goods scents tend to nauseate me when they're on, just because I wanted to smell it. I'm not going to be rushing out and buying bottles, but it was interesting to smell.

I got an imp of MiskU at some point, and liked it OK but didn't love it, IIRC. Certainly not enough to haunt eBay. :D My favorites are Brisingamen and Versailles - amber and orris FTW!

Amber is nice. I like Jacob's Ladder, which is the only amber blend I've really tried - I haven't tried that many scents, really, having not had income until about a month or two ago.

Misk U... I have managed to collect about 6 imps of, which is very lucky. XD I love it so.

I thought about Eat Me, but I think my Monsterbaits will fufill the baked goods craving for a while. That and, well. Very awkward to answer this question: "So, what are you wearing?"
