Mello and Near...

...Near's face much closer to finished.





Note: no, his eyes aren't finished yet. I've still got to do blending and small shape adjustments, but I figured I'd wait until I had the hair done before going back to it.

And the reason that I'm waiting until I've got the hair done is that on Near, moreso than Mello, the hair regulates the shape and intensity of his eyes. If you want eyes to have an intense stare, you put a dip of sorts over the pupil. Doesn't need to be much - in fact, too much and they end up looking dopey - but a subtle touch makes the expression.

Both Mello and Near have that going on in this image. You'll note that while Mello's achieving that with his (eyebrowless!) eyes, Obata drew Near's hair doing that on his eyes. And I want to do much the same thing, so there's not much point in perfecting the eyes before I go to the hair.

The nose looks good now! What did you do to "fix" it?

Read everyone's advice, then shrank the left nostil horizontally by a bit and cut-and-pasted to move the tip of the nose over to his left. :D

There's also been a lot bit of cutting-and-pasting to readjust the nose and mouth - they needed to be tilted a bit more towards his left, and then the mouth was actually a wee bit too far forward, and then I had to adjust the shape of his lower lip.

His eyes look exceptionally odd, but I've decided it's because they're much larger than normal and not because they're out of place, so I'm going to wait until I've got his hair in to decide if I really need to shrink them down or not, since his hair should change part of his eye shape and size.
