Re:Play

Dropped by Barnes & Noble at lunch and picked up a few manga, and then read all of Christy Lijewski's (aka nyanko-chan) manga Re:Play while sitting in the car eating.

Me like. Despite having several elements that I usually don't like in a book - the whole struggling-band thing really doesn't do it for me, and to mention the other element would be a huge-ass spoiler, but suffice it to say that I'll be picking up book 2 when it comes out, despite the presence of [huge-ass spoiler].

Her art is great - polished and professional, and I mean that in the sense that she knows what she's doing, because theroughness of it works. She's not new to comics - she had a series out from SLG called Next Exit - so she's got a bit more easy of a flow than some of the other new creators I've been seeing, who are still working to find their voice and movement. She's also got something which normally drives me bugfuck nuts, which is what I call head-squashy: in 3/4 view, sometimes she draws the cheekbone-to-chin line at such an angle that the skull looks incredibly deformed. It gets grudging tolerance from me in this book, because the linework and design make up for it, despite a cuple of perspective mistakes that I (and probably almsot no one else) noticed. :D

Ah, I read Re:Play in B&N last week! I really liked it, mostly because I love her character designs. For some reason, I thought it had a different plot, but I can't think of why.

If you liked the book, you should really give some thought to buying it. Whether or not an OEL series continues depends entirely on how well the series is selling in the United States and abroad (as opposed to licensed Japanese manga, which only has to sell well in Japan to continue).

I know, I should, but I have serious money issues. I need budget help, is all.
