OKay, so the Gaara pic wasn't exactly working out...

...and it was obviously because I wanted to paint instead of draw. Playing with new technique and attempting to stay patient enough to utilize it properly.

This is what it looks like without the sketch:

and this is the sketch itself:

I see I'm starting to lose the malice in Mello's eyes from the sketch, to a bland expressionlessness. Must remember to fix that.

ETA: They sketches were started by laying down a few lines from photos, because I got tired of attempting to do it without reference. Now you too can see how Zack and Yachiru became Mello and Near.

It looks wonderful! Though I notice you are also starting to lose the snarl/curl on the lips as well.

Yeah, you're right, I am. I was trying to make his lips more even, and the sneer got lost. I shall have to put it back: he's just not Mello without it. :D

I just got to volume 7, and Mello. Needless to say I want to know how he got that scar, and all the other fun stuff.

Muahahahahahaaaa!

I'm wondering if the official translation will change the wording that made several of us reading the scanlations construct amusing fantasies about Mello getting periodic updates on the sexual orientations of Mogi and Aizawa.

Mmm, Mello. He is sex.

Has Death Note actually gotten any more interesting? I'm considering picking it up again, but life is pretty hectic right now so I want to be sure I'm wasting my time beneficially. There's a thousand and one ways to waste time, and all the world is guaranteed to like one thousand of them.

How far did you get?

It's rocky - it has its ups and downs and finally ended at chapter 108.

I got a few chapters past Mello and Near's introductions, and then I gave up because without L, I was pathetic.

The chapters with Mello in them are good, because Mello is reckless and pushes the plot forward. The chapters with Near are amusing mostly for the toys that Obata draws him playing with, and there are, unfortunately, not enough Mello chapters. Near's cautious and a thinker, and thus his chapters tend to be full of him speculating at great length. Mello gets the scar somewhere in the 70s, at the end of an action section, and has a bit to do in the 80s before vanishing for a while and popping up again for a little bit in the early 90s.

And by that point, once you realize that it ends at 108, it's worth reading just to see everything come crashing to a close.

But... what happens to Misamisa?

*adds Death Note to the list of Things to Read Once I Get Used to College*

Oh, Misa's, like, glued to Light. XD
