Redone character designs

Starting to refine character designs for Gay Tibetan Martial Artists On A Plane.

For comparison, the original ones are here. What I've mostly leanred is to try to avoid any shots of him looking up, but looking through the manga I own, that's something that most mangaka do.

Oh, he's looking very distinctively tasty. Nice!

Thank you!

That doujinshi from last year's Yaoi-Con had lots and lots of shots of L looking up. At Raito's GIANT LOOMING ROBOT PENIS! With the teeny weeny black bar pasted on.

Manoj is looking good. I like the eyebrows, and the kohl-effect around the eyes.

By the way, the last row and the first of the top row are coming in ghost-like on my screen.

In that case, I shall endeavor to avoid Manoj looking up at Rinchen's GIANT LOOMING ROBOT PENIS! With the teeny weeny black bar pasted on.

They're coming in ghost-like because they haven't been drawn yet. I'm doing this on top of a faded copy of the originals and I've only done the seven heads you see so far. :D

Ah-ha!

Oyce is looking forward to more doujinshi hunting this Yaoi-Con, by the way. We hope you can join us! (Especially since she now has extra bedrooms.)

It's looking like I will actually be on a large ship in the Gulf of Mexico this fall instead of California: some friends are organizing a trip on a cruise ship* the week of October 29-Nov 5, and I don't want to be taking even *more* time off work for the conference up there.

* I am not a Cruise Person[TM], but when it's viewed as a large luxury hotel that takes me to the cool places so I don't have to deal with my luggage, it makes sense to me. The friends organizing it got married on this same one last year and had a good time, and they are most defintiely not Cruise People[TM] either.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I can see why a cruise would be preferable.

By the way, do I want to fly into Dallas-Fort Worth airport? Is it near the hotel? Can you collect me?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

(1) Yes. Although you could fly into Love Field also, which is what you'll have to do if you end up on Southwest, and it's technically closer. the DFW airport is smack dab between Dallas and Fort Worth and therefore is on my way to the hotel. Love Field is in the middle of Dallas and is therefore also on my way to the hotel.

(2) See above.

(3) Yes. And if some bizarre thing happened and I couldn't, there's a train that runs from DFW airport to downtown, and a train station at or near Reunion Tower, where the hotel is, for somewhere around $5. I think.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
* And if you flew in the day before the con, so I had to go pick you up and take you to my apartment so the cat could shed all over you, DFW is the better choice. It's only about 30-35 min away from me.

Hey, neat. I can't see the older ones, but that's okay. ^^

Man, I wish I had an artist to hook up my writing with. Then again, I suspect I need to be able to process stories wholly on my own before looking for any collaborators in the future.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. :D I think finding a collaborator is the hardest thing to do, and finding artists is harder than finding writers. There's a reason all the companies want teams to apply. XD

Yeah. I have gotten a lot of art of my original characters from commissions at cons and for fake-monies on Gaia (my major online hangout, I swear it has cool bits among the wank), but it's definitely nothing that could be called a manga.

Then again, I like to try and be all epic. XD I think I'd make someone's hand fall off.

My images are ghosting too, hmm, wonder what's up with that?

I see you're walking the line between 'Bruce Lee/Tony Jaa asian kung fu hair' and 'could possibly be a mullet with another 4 weeks' growth.' Is this character's hair going to be black, or another colour?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
They're ghosting because they haven't been drawn yet - I'm doing the new ones on top of a very faded copy of the old ones and I've only done the 7 you see.

The hairstyle would be very close to a shag. :) It wouldn't be a mullet with another 4 weeks' growth because the bangs (presumably 'fringe' down there where you live :D) would grow out at the same rate. The technical term for what it would be in 4 weeks is "a mess."

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-07-31 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't say mullet! Yes, his hair is black. He's from south India.

He's looking great! I adore his nose.
