Shojo Manga: Girl Power Exhibit

[livejournal.com profile] coffeeandink visits this exhibit on shojo manga at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

ETA Well, that was supposed to go into [livejournal.com profile] manga_talk, but maybe there's some of you who don't read that who'd be interested anyway.

"manga talk"--that phrase cracks me up. In Norway if you said that people would think you were saying "thank you very much!"

XD *files that away in case she is ever near a Norwegian-speaking person.*

Well, it's not the best pronunciation, but yeah!

It's spelled "mange takk" (many thanks) and pronounced "mangye tak" with no "g" sound and you go straight to the "k" (short vowel) in the second word. But "manga talk" sounds like the American pronunciation of it!

Someone told me once that there's a language - Eastern European, I think - where "Ciya" (with various appropriate diacritical marks) is pronounced like, and means something like, "See ya". I've never been able to get confirmation of that and I've now forgotten what language it was supposed to be, but if it's true, then it's amusing. :D
