Does anyone out there know of any decent audio streams of J-rock and J-pop that are *not* primarily peppy anime music? I need coding music - I can't listen to techno because the driving beat distracts me, or anything with lyrics that I can understand because the words distract me. Popular J-rock and J-pop tracks tend to work because the music tends to be the right balance of bland enough not to make me want to listen to it instead of code, but not quite bland enough to put me to sleep, and the lyrics are Japanese so any insipidness doesn't drive me crazy and any cleverness is hidden from me. Last year I put my mp3 directory of Weiss Kreuz downloads on heavy repeat and that worked well, but I'm trying to branch out now because the music is now all familiar to me. :)

try: http://www.gamingfm.com/complete/main/

Also, have you listened to the Japan-A stream on iTunes? It's J-pop/anime

Cool, thanks. The iTunes one is still overloaded with peppy anime for my coding needs, but there's enough classical-like on the GamingFM one to be useful.

If only I could find something that streamed Japanese visual kei bands, that would probably be perfect, but the only one I can find that does is on Live365 and wants me to buy a Live365 membership before letting me hear it. *sigh*

You might also try Radio Free Virgin's Cinematique and The Conservatory channels. The former is movie incidental music (not OST, but the actual music in the movies) and the other is classical. I listen to it in the morning when I don't want to hear rock. They've also got some nice other channels, but it's all standard American music, so the words would distract you. Several of the channels though, are Virgin artists and the music they like. Peter Gabriel's channel is pretty nice.

Oh, interesting, I'll have to check that out. :) I like Beethoven.com for classical, too.
