telophase: (Saiyuki - drinking)

A dilemma...and a solution

I forgot to go by the store and get more non-pure-water beverages, so the only thing left to drink in the apartment is tap water, tea and booze. It's too hot for tea. I went for a vodka tonic, because the tonic water is kept in the fridge and thus is cold, but I discovered that it is out-of-date and therefore the flavor has shifted and not for the better. I did discover a remedey, though.

MORE VODKA.

This is why iced tea was invented. Lovely stuff, and very good at cooling you down, particularly if it's peppermint tea. :D

I HAVE NO ICE!

Seriously - there's too much stuff in the freezer (including 14 cups of stock in 1.5-cup packages that I really need to make into something-or-other) to fit the ice trays in, and it would take way too much time to brew tea and then cool it down in the fridge. (And there there's the teeny little problem that I really don't like ice tea very much. XD)

Some people are picky about what they eat. I'm picky about what I drink. :D Which is why I'm a bit off-kiterl from cutting out the aspartame, because Diet Dr Pepper, I know I can drink tons of. But msot other drinks aren't the same - I'm sensitive to the mix in sodas, so if the proportions are a bit off, they taste nasty, and most ice tea in restaurants is either overbrewed and too bitter or too watery. There's a very narrow window of taste that I can stand tea. :)

And if a soda's been cold, then warmed up, then cold again, the taste shifts enough that I can taste it - yuck. :P

I never could stand aspartame, and even Splenda in sodas is enough off I can pick it up and it tastes nasty.

Iced tea in restaurants can be iffy. Especially if they don't realize that they need to have separate brewing machines for coffee and tea... EEEeeeeeeeeeeewwwww. But if you're making it yourself you can make it how you like.

Personally, what I like are herb teas - I don't have to worry about caffeine, they generally don't need sweetening, and you can get a wide range of tastes to suit your mood. *has two entire shelves in her kitchen cabinet devoted to the teaness*
