They're replacing the ceiling tiles in the basement of the Library this month, and starting with the hall outside my office door. So it's dusty and noisy and they're dropping tools every so often, and there's big sheets of plastic shrouding the books nearby. But the most interesting thing was when I opened the door from the loading dock, where the employees enter, to be confronted by a guy on stilts - there's 2 people each strapped into their own set of big metal drywall stilts about 3 foot tall, and they're using those to work on the ceiling instead of standing on ladders. Interesting.

There's also another guy standing near them but not on stilts whose job it is, I assume, to pick up all the tools they drop.

At least they cover stuff with plastic when they change out the ceiling tiles! They always forget to do that here. D:

Heh. Our assistant dean is a marvel and a terror about this sort of thing and wouldn't let them get away with not covering things with plastic. :D

Haha. I would never be able to balance like that. I wonder if they are dropping tools on purpose then, because they can't bend down to put them down?

Perhaps - there does seem to be an awful lot of banging every so often. XD

there's less balancing needed. they have lil' tension springs, so that standing at angles is possible. and they actually strap onto your shoes. Cool gadget, those.

I'm sure it still requires some balance and practice, especially stepping over power cords and such. And going home after work has to be disorienting!

going home after work has to be disorienting!

I'm sure so!

They should put their tools on cords, so they can fire the third guy.

I think they need someone to call 911 when they fall off the stilts. XD

Can you imagine falling and sticking yourself in the ass with one of those? It has to have had happen.
