Tiepolo painting

Forgot to post the pic of my finished painting that I've been working on in the oil painting class.

The regular shadows across it are from the vertical blinds on the sliding glass door - I forgot about them and they didn't really show up until the picture was imported into Photoshop, and by that time I didn't care about redoing the photo. :D

There's lots of places where it could be worked on and improved, but I NO LONGER CARE.

I have it up on Da without a Mature Content warning for teh boobie because it's art, dammit. How long will it be before the DA admins slap me for it? :D

That's...pretty damn hot *_*

I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen, but...seems to me that almost all of the burnt umber(?) underpainting's been completely covered...?

Yup, that's the point of an underpainting - it's under the painting. :D It serves a similar purpose to a drawing - it establishes the shapes and forms that you follow when you come in with color, and the tint of the underpainting establishes the tone as well - many oil paints aren't opaque, but are translucent instead, so that light reflects and refracts through the layers. Which is one reason why many paintings that are acclaimed masterpieces are sort of "Huh? That thing?" in photographs and reproductions - you don't get the subtleties of the light.

/me brings on the envy. My acrylics (which I'm using for color theory class) don't do that ;_; You lay on some coats and everything becomes opaque >_

I love her eyes. They have a "haughty disdain/come hither" look going on, very well done. He looks kinda like a lost puppy following her every whim.

Good! :D The original story that Tiepolo's painting is based on is basically that - Rinaldo is some sort of general and Armida's a sorceress and has enchanted him to fall in love with her. I forgot exactly why and I don't know the rest of the story, but that's that particular moment.

I think it's funny that when I got their features in, all of a sudden they were both ten years younger. XD

Ooo, I'd been wondering how that turned out. Very impressive!
