Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] puppleball and the 7th graders she teaches science to for qualifying for State in the Texas Science Olympiad. Of course, the catch is, they can't go unless she manages to raise $2K for the costs of hotel/food/transportation, and she's only $400 of the way there. The school's location, shall we say, isn't in the best area of town and it's the sort of opportunity the kids rarely get.

So: I put this question to you. I'm thinking of holding a small silent auction for the kids, with a commission as the prize, but I gotta figure out beforehand if it's likely to get enough to be worth my time - if the top bid is only like $15, I could just as easily give that much myself. :D I'm thinking the commission would be a pencil piece, 16x20", sort of like one of these pieces here. Your choice of character, matted and shipped to you, natch.

The ones of those that I've sold have gone for $50-125 each in anime art show auctions, just to give you a ballpark figure of what they may be worth.

So a poll, to find out! Nobody can see the answers but me. And this poll is NOT a contract! If you say you'll bid $X and you don't, or you don't bid, that's OK. It's just to feel out if it'd be worth it, or if I should just post a few prints for sale, because they're less work on my part. (I figure I'd probably run a silent auction for a few days, with people emailing me bids, and I'd post the current highest bid (no name!), just so people could up their bid if they want. That sort of thing.)

Anyway, poll and I must go ink! If you've got any comments or suggestions, feel free to post 'em.

I don't think I'd be interested in an auction myself, but I'd be happy to offer a few bucks. How might one send money?

I'll find out if she's got Paypal set up, or if she'll take, say, checks made out to the school district. If so, that'll be the way, if not I'll most likely accept Paypal and give it to her, or you can send her a check/money order/concealed cash/whatever. And thanks!

I'm not into auctions much myself either, but I'm happy to donate. Paypal would be grand (since I am in Australia and a cheque would probably be more trouble than its worth).

Cool. :D Once I find out from [livejournal.com profile] puppleball if she's got Paypal, I'll post and let you guys know whether to send it her way or my way. Thanks!

Thank you

Thank you to everyone whose willing to send money for my kids (oh and it spans 6th-8th grade plus one returning 9th grader who after this year will be attempting to start a High School team so he can continue competing). We have 4 weeks to competition tempered by the TAKS test a week before, so they lose that week to get ready.

I don't have a paypal account, so I will be taking telophase up on her offer to use hers. Checks are also good and info for those is as follows:

Address anything to:

Sam Houston MS
Attn: Science Department
2232 Sussex Dr
Garland, TX 75041

Checks can be made out to Sam Houston Middle School and in the for section they can put Donation-Science Olympiad.

Thank you everyone for anything you can give. We try to pay full expenses for the kids. They're a good group of kids and many are not in a good situation.
