Artpost again...

...well it's Yet Another In-Process Pic of Koumyo and kid!Sanzo.

Image hosting by Photobucket

I wanted to get it completely inked tonight, but since I devoted quite some time to doing backgrounds for the next page of Project Blue Rose, I didn't have time (I'm getting up tomorrow for painting class). :D

What needs to be done: making the wall look not like I drew it using straight lines, adding cracks & stuff, adding trees, adding butterfly, adding detail to the pathway.

Oh - I asked over in [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's LJ here for other things that Saiyuki used for symbolism, but nobody bit. There's a place or two in the picture that I think need activating, and if I can fit something that dovetails nicely with Saiyuki to add resonance,t hat would be great. So anything that you can think of. :D

Symbolic items in Saiyuki, preferably associated with Sanzo or Koumyou

The sun, or a ray of sunlight.

Cherry blossoms.

Mahjong.

Beads.

Water.

Sutras, scrolls, books, newspapers-- any paper with writing on it.

Cigarettes.

Alcohol.

Vines (mostly associated with Hakkai, though.)

The moon, or moonlight. Night, with regard to Ukoku.

Centipedes, but that's more Hakkai.

The color red (again, Hakkai and Gojyo).

Snow.

Beer cans with cigarette butts inside (Hakkai/Gojyo).

Food, and the cooking thereof.

Hands, bloodied and otherwise, clawed and otherwise.

Paper airplanes.

Koumyo's head looks a little...odd O_o but I can't really put my finger on why...other than that it's looking good~

*thinks*

Cigarettes (doesn't Koumyo smoke, at least in the manga?). Sake bottle and cup. A fan (like the Kouryuu will carry in later life). Prayer beads. Maybe some holy or meditative object, like a raked sand/rock garden, that both figures are ignoring.

(Weapons and jewelry, especially earrings, also strike me as typical symbols, but not here. Stray mahjongg tiles.)

He smokes a pipe, I think. And Sanzo tells him off about smoking it in public. :)

If you saw the movie, a big deal was made out of the color orange. I also remember Koumyou talking to kiddie!Sanzo about the way an orange paper airplane looked against the blue sky, but I can't remember if it was in the anime or the movie.

Also, wow, the kid Sanzo *really* looks like him now. Bravo!

It's in the manga. I just read it today and I remember that part.

Falling leaves and paper aeroplanes?

I just love sanzo's skinny little legs. Perfect!

Minekura often uses crows in relation to Ukoku, which may or may not fit in here depending if you wanted something sinister. Or Ni Jyeni's bunny doll? Maybe not.

Just a note: Sanzo's right leg looks slighty elderly rather than youthful to me.

Sanzo's expression just cracks me up.

As for symbolism, I'd add to all of the above: peach trees, peaches, and wildflowers.
