ugh

Attempting to sleep last night was not fun. Between the warm weather, doing a load of laundry, cooking, and running the dishawasher, the apartment had heated up to 80. I turned the fan on in the bedroom, weirding out the cat who wasn't sure she liked this invisible moving thing ruffling her fur, and it still wasn't enough. I have a very hard time getting to sleep if it's warm, and if I do manage to get to sleep, I have nightmares. I broke down and turned the AC on for the first time since October or whenever after waking up from a nightmare an hour after I fell asleep.

Which meant I got a full blast of the allergens that had built up in the system, since I hadn't had the heat on in two months, either, and spent the rest of the night periodically waking up with coughing and sneezing and stuffy nose and so on. *sigh* Time to replace the air filter, huh?

Believe me, I understand. Over the past three days it's been a minimum of 80 degrees in my apartment and, because I'm on a central HVAC system, I don't even have the option of switching to air conditioning. Blargh.

I keep trying to habituate myself to live at a higher temperature in the summer, but it never works. *sigh*

I'm fine up to about 75 degrees (in fact, I prefer 75 to my family's 68 by an awful lot) but past there, the air just gets sticky. Especially in this area. Ugh, swampy.

My cats have the same feeling about the ceiling fan and expressed it all night. Luckily it has been overcast and not too uncomfortable without AC and I think this whole week is going to be OK temperature-wise. I really don't want to turn on my AC until I get it all cleaned out, but I need to do some housecleaning to get to the point they can come in and do so. *sigh*

I hate thinking how much it is going to cost either, but it sounded horrible at the end of last season so there is no way I am going to turn it on until it is cleaned. I'm trying to prolong these really nice days of my gas and electric bills combined coming out between $50 and $60 for as long as possible as well. This month's should be lower as I don't think the heat has been on much at all and there is certainly nothing in the forecast to indicate it will be coming on again.

The cat really wanted to sleep on my bed last night, but the fan was just too much - she'd creep in and curl up on the end of the bed for a while, then leave. She better get used to it, if she wants to sleep in my room during the summer, though. XD

Kali never really minded it -- these kits haven't really been exposed to it before (with me at least, no idea about their previous adoptive mother or the kitty foster parent's place) so hopefully they will adapt too. I did turn down the speed and that seemed to help some. I'll crank it back up to high once they've mellowed a bit on the concept.

I can't sleep if I am too warm either. Ideally, I like the room crisply cool to sleep. Lucky that isn't a problem in the winter here! XD Maybe it is because I grew up poor or most folk up here don't install AC for the three or four weeks out of the year it is hot enough for it, but I hadn't even HEARD of having AC in a private home until I went to the States for the first time!

*laffs at cute kitty*

Here in the north we are having opposite problems. I keep waking up in the night shivering because my room is frigid (the heat doesn't work properly), and it was really windy last night so the drafts from my windows is not so pleasant. I can't wait for someday when I own my own place with centralized heat and AC - then life will be peachy!

Ah for me yesterday was perfect. It was nice and no need for heat or AC. There was also enough breeze that the air wasn't stale or heavy. The day feels like that again today, but in a few hours the tempature is going to drop down to 30 and storm again.
