Operation Bring Lunch To Work is going along swimmingly - I cooked enough today to have leftovers good for four meals, which allows me to eat four lunches and then go out one day.

Provided I remember to take them to work, which isn't actually a given.

I have also discovered that the fish sauce I own is lousy, because it has no fish sauce flavor and is nothing but salt. *sigh* Must trek out to the Asian market, since it looks like the nearby grocery store, despite having a much better selection of Asian stuff than the usual grocery store does, stocks crap stuff. (well, which I suspected, but I bought the fish sauce some time ago.)

And warm Thai-style pork on top of oranges is ... interesting. The flavors blended better after the orange pieces warmed up, but never really meshed, partly due to the salt-only fish sauce and partly, I think, because I discovered a lime in the fridge that hadn't started growwing fuzz and decided to throw it in. I shall probably eat the leftover pork stuff rolled in lettuce with sticky rice instead of with oranges.

Is there a fridge at work? If so, when you *do* remember, bring in all your lunches at once?

There is indeed a fridge at work, however it serves all the staff of the library as well as holding refreshments for random functions held at the library and as such, I can't be sure that there will be enough space on any given day. :) I've got one of those soft lunchbag cooler things and a couple of small blue ice things that I usually use.

If I could be sure that the electrical system in my office could support it, I'd be all about getting one of those small fridges like this (http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/gear/6ad2/).

Not sure if you need them, but I figured I'd give recommendations on 3 brands:

Squid Brand is what mom has prefered for the last 10? years. Recently though, I've been of the opinion it's too salty, but that may be more a function of me not eating too much salty food anymore. Mom still likes it.

We grew up using Tiparos brand though. It was what mom could get no matter where we were.

The last brand I haven't tried yet, but intend to. This site gives it good reviews. Tra Chang

You should be able to easily get any of these at a decent Asian Market, but let me know if you can't and if you want any of them as I know I can get all three.

Cool, thanks. Mom usually uses Squid Brand, because that's what the local Asian store carries, but I'm willing to try others, especially if they might be less salty.

Avoid a brand called "Flying Horse" or "Flying Fish" (I forget which...it was a while back.)

While I realize that nuoc nam is supposed to be salty and pungent, the Flying Horse smelt and tasted utterly rancid, like someone had been marinating dead bodies in a vat of brine and sewage.

Noted, thanks.
