Ah, good...

...putting black fills in does make the pages look better.

This is the dual-page view in ComicMangaStudio. I'm actually inking at 1.5 times the final size, and then exporting at 66.67% for lettering and toning. That tightens up the lines. :)

(And [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija can be reassured that pg 11 is getting done - it's just totally kicking my butt for no discernible reason whatsoever.)

Aside from easy toning, what does MangaStudio do for you that Photoshop and Illustrator don't?

Curious,

Much better response to the tablet, and a whole lot of tweaking available for the lines that takes less time than PS or Illustrator. A filter that puts speedlines and streamlines in. A number or specialized layer types for rulers and panel borders - you can use built-in rulers and French curves or make your own and ink along them, although I will admit that I rarely use them and jsut freehand it. There's supposed to be some sort of panel grouping thing but I havne't worked out how it works or why I'd use it, because I'm using a beta version that came without a manual and I don't read Japanese so I can't read the Celsys website. It comes with templates for standard Japanese comic page sizes (and, I'd hope the American release would add American page sizes) and you can register your own, and put in page guides and full bleeds and the like fairly easily - again I don't think I'm using this to its full extent due to lack of manual.

The lettering sucks rocks, and I'd be doing it in PS if it weren't that I'm currently lettering before I tone. I'm hoping that since the beta-test version is buggy, they've fixed a lot of that and made the lettering easier in the 3.0 - I'm using 2.0. I'm going to go ahead and get the release version (at academic pricing, natch, the pro version is not worth $300 to me especially since I'll be able to get it for $100) because I've gotten so used to it here.

It's much like Painter in that sure, you can do the same thing in PS or Illustrator, but since it's focused on those things instead of being an all-in-one program like the Adobe ones, it's usually a bit easier to do them.

The $30-at-acadmic-price for the Debut version would totally be worth it just for the tone library, and that could be used to see how well you, or whoever buys it, like the rest of it well enough to get the EX. I ahve, unfortuenly, been using the EX beta version, so I couldn't stand dropping down to a crippled version. :D

this is the view of the double page of the comedy MangaStudio. As for me final size with 1.5 where you apply really the ink the blotch 込 is the り which is, next the lettering has exported with 66.67% for the thing which gives a certain condition. That on the line to be possible it is attached, it tightens:

Argh I really try to do black fills but it's so against my nature!! I think, "I did all that drawing just to have it covered up?!" But I've been doing it lately. I put a white tone on top of it to show clothing folds and stuff. But I swear, that's a huge challenge for me.

:D I naturally tend towards simple shapes and areas of black and white, it's just that I tend to forget about that in the midst of drawing things. The previous pages, especially in the diner/cafe, suffer from that, I think, ad I need to go back through when toning and add some solid blacks.
