Painting class

Started a short painting class today. The teacher had us use black and white only, to work with tones, and mix all our greys out of that. She had us go through magazines, pick a picture, and cut a small bit out of it to abstract the shapes, and then paint that.

Maybe you can figure out what the original picture was. :D

I get the feeling that it's a living thing...
Dragon?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. :D

This is sorta fun. Hee. XD

I really don't know... ><
Oh my...

Read down the comments - someone managed to get it. XD

Peoples standing on a mountain and those are shadows?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Dingdingdingdingding! We have a WINNAH! It's mountaineers toiling up a ridge. XD

It looked really abstract to me until I put the mountaineers in, whereupon I cna't see anything else, now.

Oh wow xD

Once you see that it does look quite clear. Looks like they're staring down at a whirlpool in awe or something.

Hee. I'm not even sure what that section was in the original picture - I think just a sheer cliff face with rounded-off mounded snow on top, but it ended up looking very hole/whirlpool-like.

The person on the left seems to be flailing with his arms. "Our friend's down there nuooo!!!"

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Watch me! I can flyyyyyyyyyy!"

Ahaha! I stared at this for about five minutes, totally unable to see the moutaineers, and then I finally saw it! I think it's because the picture is on its side. If it was right-side-up, I would have seen it much quicker. :D Very pretty, by the by! The colors are lovely.

Heh heh. Looks like the Fellowship heading along the mountains.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, close enough - mountaineers. I don't even know which range it is, since I forgot to check what article in the magazine it was from. :) Probably the Himalaya, though.

that is so, so excellent. i love loking at paintings, i love the way you can see the physical presence of the material. ♥ also, i'm insanely jealous of painters because i never learned how to paint. XD

Thank you! (The real secret? The painting itself is fairly easy - it's knowing when to stop and when to slap more on that's hard. XD)
