Uggg

Spent an hour and a half* fiddling with my tablet because the pressure sensitivity and expresskey buttons decided to stop working, and I ended up reinstalling the driver, which seems to have worked at least for now.

Also went to the doctor today, almost late after waking up late because I had some sort of stomach bug for most of the night. Ironically, I almost was too sick to go to the doctor. :D But my guts seemed to settle by the time I had to go. I rather like my doctor - she acts interested in whatever book I bring in, and she doesn't interrupt my rambled stories about however I injured myself and what I've done about it. She poked and prodded my knee, which of course had shown immediate improvement upon making the appointment so I got to feel guilty about going in, which embarassingly didn't hurt at all during that time (although after the appointment all the poking and prodding made it start hurting, so I feel somewhat justified). She then X-rayed it to make sure I wasn't developing arthritis - I'm not - and officially diagnosed me with a strained ligament on the inside of my right knee, and told me to lay off the stairs for a while because the knee isn't incredibly stable going up and down, and wobbles back and forth a bit, which can keep the strain from healing. Gosh, a medical excuse to use the elevator. My lazy ass is all about that. I'm supposed to do some light range-of-motion exercises, which I can do sitting at my desk, and take some prescription anti-inflammatories. Whee. Should be OK in 4 to 6 weeks.

Even though the pain was never incredibly bad - except for the occasional ACK twinge - I remembered how bad my back got after I kept re-straining it and couldn't get it treated because I didn't have insurance, and I was damned if I was going to go through two years of this with my knee.

So of course now that I need to lay off the knee-busting exercise for a while, I've got a mad urge to go work out. I've got some weights at home; maybe I'll just work on my upper body.

IMMEDIATE LIFE GOAL: get in the habit of emptying the dishwasher as soon as it's finished, so that I can put dirty dishes directly into it and stop them piling up in and around the sink until every single dish I own is dirty.

* About twenty minutes of actual work interspersed with bits of making and eating dinner.

I had to re-install my tablet driver not too long ago, too. . .

It must be a conspiracy

I remember reading adivce on tablets and hearing that people often had to reinstall the drivers, but it took a while to occur to me that it might be the problem, because my previous tablet had no problems at all. Huh.

Yes! It's all due to Them.

*hugs for your knee.*

Thanks. :D I really do feel guilty about going in for something that doesn't hurt that much, but my back hurt badly for almsot two years because of not getting it seen to. And back when I was a kid, I had a strained ligament in my ankle for six years because my parents wouldn't take me to the doctor for it, saying that it needed more exercise. So when I got to college and could take myself to the doctor, I did, and it turns out exercise was the worst thing I could do to it, and eight weeks of an ankle brace with Advil healed it. Why, no, I don't have issues about that or anything. :P

I read somewhere that there was a name for that phenomenon - things getting better, or less painful, after making an appointment. XD It certainly usually happens to me.

I think it's entirely reasonable to go to the doctor when something hurts. (Says the doctor-avoider.)

My mother didn't want me to go to the doctor after I broke my toe in karate. She thought that I was exagerrating the pain - she always does - and that it was just bruised. I had to put my foot down (gingerly) and insist that she drive me, and it wasn't until after she saw the X-ray with a very obvious, clean break that she believed me.

My parents were both of the opinion that if it turns green and falls off then they might make an appointment to see a doctor at some point in the future. I've got a scar on my had from cutting myself accidentally that probably would have benefited from a couple of stitches.
