More memes. Because, you know, it's not like they're going to fire me for doing this at work.

Damn, I've been to a lot of states. And people think I don't know what I'm talking about when I say I don't like the Midwest.

This one's more boring. I lived in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park as a kid, because my dad was a grad student in wildlife ecology, and I put Liberia down on the basis of a refueling layover stop in Monrovia on the way to and from Nairobi, Kenya on either side of that trip, because otherwise my map looked even more bland.

Hey, are your internet problems fixed? If not, and this is your last day at work, how should I get in touch with you?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-14 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, tomorrow's my first day at my new job - I'll still keep my cepheid.org address as my primary address and check it when I can - not sure how much time I'll have the first few days of work, although as the IT Librarian I'll be around computers a lot. :)

My home phone is 972-447-9995 if there's anything that you need or want to tell me that can't wait for up to a few days - I'll be home, er .. sometime after 6:30 Central time? And have to try to get to bed by 10 for the next month-ish, because I have to get up at *gack* 5:30 AM for a 1-1.5 hour commute to work until I'm in the new apartment. (I live in Dallas. New job in Fort Worth. One big sprawling metroplex, but my apartment and the university I'm working at are about 50 miles apart, through the heart of a lot of traffic. The apartment I settled on last night is only 14 miles from the university. And is over a third again as large as my current apt for only $15/month more. :D)

I am hopeful to get the computer fixed this week - the listmind on the mailing list I'm on is slowly starting to concur that it might be the power supply, though there's a few hardcases holding out for processor heatsink or hard drive problems. At any rate, I'll just be replacing various components and seeing if it starts working. (Tonight's plan: install Win2K on the new HD and see if booting from that one works.)

Where is your new apartment going to be?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-14 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Camden Terrace - in Fort Worth right near the border of Arlington and FW, I think. Off Randol Mill.

Since I'm in a Camden property, if I transfer to another I don't have to pay the fee to break my lease, and I can give them 30 days' notice, *and* since I qualify as a long-term resident, they waive the transfer fee. I qualify for a decent rent *and* for a special where they move me for $1. w00t!

Sweet!

I'm so excited for you! If you need any help unpacking, let us know.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-14 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks! I may have to take you up on that -- most of my friends have been sort of looking around and mutting "Oh, is that the time?" when I mention helping me move. (well, ok, they suggest I get a company that moves me but I note that EVERY ONE OF THEM is living with someone so they all have people to help them pack!)

OK, going home from this job now for the alst time. COmputer's down at home, not sure when I'll check my email and LJ again. Hopefully tomorrow, but ti's the first day of the job, so not sure how much computer time I'll get. Seeya.

Let John and I know if you need help with the move. We don't see enough of you :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-15 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OK. I'm going to be trying to pack a couple of boxes at home every night, throwing them in the car, and dropping them off at the new apartment after work for a while. I think I can move most of the place myself that way, since I have a month in which to do it. But I'll have to see how well I stick to that plan. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-26 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of helping with the move, what are y'all doing next weekend? :) (the 2nd & 3rd) I'm only very slowly getting things packed upon my own and taken to the apartment, and I need a big push to get most of the smaller items and essentials (like books) over there. I've got a moving deal where they'll bill the apartment complex for up to $250, so I'm going to get them to move the big stuff and take care of most of the boxes and the small stuff myself, but I need help in just getting the damn stuff into boxes - packing and transporting help would be wonderful.

This weekend we are free, let me ask Bruce if he wants to go to Addison. I seriously doubt he won't mind but out of respect and all I need to ask.

Anyway, I'm confused. Do you need help this weekend or the weekend afternext or both?

Much love,
Mundee

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-27 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What I was planning on was getting the other couple to help me pack and get a preliminary light load of stuff over (prior to the movers, who will be moving all my big stuff on Oct. 8th), and then prevailing upon y'all one of the days of the weekend of the 9-10th to come out to Fort Worth and help me unpack, put stuff up, that sort of thing.

(You guys rock, BTW. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-26 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So ... what are y'all doing the weekend of the 9-10th? :)

Moving.....

[identity profile] mundeemo.livejournal.com 2004-09-27 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm..... Nothing. Now if it was the 22nd thru the 26th of October I would have to back out but we are free. Yipee for you!

Ciao!
Mundee

Hehehe, great icon. If you think your map is bland you can console yourself with the fact that I live in England and have yet to cross either into Scotland or Wales, let alone cross any kind of vast dividing water!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2004-09-14 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I ganked it from icons posted on [livejournal.com profile] saiyuki_reload.

As far as travel: wow. :) I spent a semester in Wales in 1991, and have travled into Scotland and several palces in England since (spent last August on an internship in Shropshire, actually). But of course, if you go to a place you don't live, you *usually* try to travel as much as possible, so it's not really surprising that I've been to as many places in the UK as I've been. Er. If that makes sense. (Edinburgh's my favorite of all the places I've been, I think.)
