In progress, part 2

You know you're dying to know what my new studio/office area looks like.

But first you have to look at the cat. XD

This is a reminder of what it looked like this morning:

And now...

The view as you're walking in:

Featuring the tangle of wires that will be more-or-less hidden after I put together the two new shorty bookshelves I bought at Office Depot (they were on sale at $15 each- how could I pass that up?). That big space needs big art of some ilk, but I'm about to start taking a painting class, and I may just paint something.

My work surface at the cleanest and most clutter-free that it will EVER be:

The 3-drawer dresser that the printer fits PERFECTLY on, and the two original shorty bookshelves. With manga/anime artbooks and art reference books right at hand.

The two tall bookshelves remaining here, and the filing cbinet that I discovered could fit there perfectly. This is a slight change from the original - I realized that if I kept a third bookshelf here, as I'd originally intended, it'd be blocking off the ONE electrical outlet over in this area, and I really needed it to be open. But that meant I could add the second shorty bookcase and the filing cabinet.

And this is my view from my chair when at the computer: the television as focal point of the entire room. XD:

And this is the corner of the room that really needs work. That's the ugly plastic chest that I don't want featured, but I can't get rid of because I need the storage space. The angle cuts off the stealth desk, which is currently also piled high with crap. :D The three tall bookshelves I bought will go along that wall, and the chair whose back you can see behind the cat there will be pulled over by the window. The pile of junk just at the end of the futon there is the art table, which will be covered with one of my pieces of fabric so I can stuff things under there without seeing them, and it'll fake a table of some sort.

Not sure how much more I can get done this weekend - my right knee is registering some very strong opinions about its ability to get me to stand up from the floor at the moment.

Can't you use your folding screen to make a sort of hidden storage area? :)

That's part of the plan - the ugly plastic chest is going to live behind the screen, and the art cart might also. :) But the chair is going to need a side table where I can put my drink and pile the 3 or 4 books I'm currently reading at, or I'll never use it, so the art table will fill that niche, I think.

For the mess o' cables in the back of the desk, IKEA does have a perfect solution. Next time you're there take a look at their cable management systems. They're really quite good. :)

OK. If I ever dare go back into the store again. XD

If you leave a trail of those filing coloured dots, you can actually get in and out without getting lost for a week.

God help you if they have to send in the St. Bernards.
