That made my day. And you are right...those things are super cute, especially for bugs. Of course, I also think that blowfly larvae and parasitic wasps are adorable, so my opinions when it comes to entomolo-squee are a bit biased.
I probably already asked you (sorry if so): Do you like house centipedes? I think they're kind of cute. It helps to know that they're generally not poisonous or prone to biting people.
I don't mind house centipedes, but I don't encourage them. I don't really like maintaining a flourishing arthropod ecosystem inside my apartment, as they don't tend to like staying localized. On the whole, I'd rather have earwigs.
The only insects I thoroughly despise are cock-a-roaches and any form of home-invading or fire ant. These bugs are terminated with extreme prejudice, often in the form of a big-ol' motorcycle boot. Spiders that make the mistake of crawling into my hair or clothing are also subjected to the same treatment.
Cute, until you put 'em in a mason jar with some holes punched in the top and leave it overnight, to take to show & tell the next day. 20-30 babies that evening, 2-3 babies and a lot of husks the next morning. I was like 5-6 and *horrified*.
