Let's all play...

Rearrange [livejournal.com profile] telophase's Apartment!

This is the current floorplan of the living area (bedroom/bathroom/utility area cut off):

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It's fairly close to the proper dimensions - I'm not sure about the angle that the angled wall is at - the desk ought to be taking up more space there - and with the desk in the way it's hard to get the measuring tape there to measure the length of those two walls and to calculate the angle with the Pythagorean Theorem. So, it's eyeballed and is not quite right.

ETA: This is the entire apartment floorplan. They've got the proportions off, too - the wall between the window and the angled wall is too big in mine and too small in theirs.

Anyway - here is a jpg with the floorplan and the new furniture added (plus extras of the stealth desk and the TV cart, since rotating them makes them fuzzy), if you feel like playing cut-and-paste. If you're got Photoshop, here is a zipped Photoshop file that has every piece of furniture on a different layer, for easy manipulation.

Color Code:

Black - It ain't movin'. The walls, of course, plus that dresser along the bottom wall (it's about 150 pounds and I can't physically move it) and the microwave cart with the microwave on it, since it eneds to be near the kitchen and there's no other place for it to go (there is no counter space in the kitchen).

Red - It's outta here. Just the stealth desk at the moment.

Green - I'm open to tossing this.

Blue - Current furniture that I'm keeping. The plastic chest of drawers I hate, but I need the storage space and it's short enough to tuck under the new desk and be hidden away (although that may take up too much leg space). I don't think the filing cabinet will fit under the new desk - it's 27" tall, and the new desk is 28 3/8" tall and I'm not sure how thick the top is. I can't fit both the plastic chest and the filing cabinet and have room for my legs, anyway.

Purple - (on the linked jpg, not on the image above) New furniture that is either purchased but not delivered, or will be purchased soon. The bookcases are approximate sizes, based on ones at Target I saw the other day (they're about 6 foot tall).

Details:

-- Note the light switch on the wall with the TV cart. I can't put a tall bookshelf there or it will be blocked - that's the porch light.

-- There is a pass-through from the kitchen to the dining area, about 4 foot off the ground, so no tall bookcases there, although I think all my other furniture fits under there.

-- "Short" are two short bookcases, about 3 foot tall.

-- The futon above is the size it is when in a couch shape. When it's a bed, the short edge is about 2 foot wider.

Likes And Dislikes:

-- See how all the furniture is ranged against the wall? I hate that - it'd be nice to actually use some of this open, flowing floorspace. The tall bookcases have to be against the wall (even though I'd love to use them as room dividers) because I'm in an apartment and can't really screw them into the wall or ceiling, but the two short bookcases are sturdy enough to stand by themselves, and I have that Japanese-look folding screen, which can all work as room dividers.

-- I have to be able to see the TV from the desk - that's how I manage to keep myself entertained when I'm drawing.

-- I do not want to sit with my back to the sliding glass door or to the open room when I'm at my desk. That makes me uncomfortable.

-- The Bigger Bookcases near the entrance are really heavy. I don't want to move them if I don't have to, but they're not black, so they can be moved if the room design is stunning enough. :) The four bookcases in the dining area are lighter and can be moved more easily, although it's a hassle, but if the design calls for it, the design calls for it.

-- The window in teh upper right is only 2.5 foot off the ground, so you can't really put anything in front of it. I'd kind of like to keep it open, because I have a Kitty Sill I'd like to install on it, so the cat can sit there comfortably. Right now she tends to camp out on top of the plastic chest there.

-- If you're tempted to try a reading nook ... well, the chair used to be in the center of the dining room area surrounded by bookcases and I never used it, and I never use the loveseat now. I might use a nook if the chair is near the window and I get another end table (yeah - I'm open to buying end tables, GOd only knows I need at least one more) to sit by it.

I think that's it. Feel free to ask questions, and I wanna see what you come up with. XD

The purple desk is the new one. Green means I already own it and am open to tossing it. :D
