...from the previous post. The pencils turned out better than the colors, as per usual, but what the hey. I will one day learn to paint at a level I consider acceptable in Painter.
XD The original sketch (which was mostly just their heads) had Goku with his eyes closed, like my icon, but I couldn't get it to work out, and once I realized he wasn't just randomly happy but was holding a kitten, the open eyes worked much better. :D
oh my god. that is so, so excellent. it's not quite minekura's style, but not in a distracting way, if that makes any sense. like, i only noticed that after staring at it in happy happy awe for a few minutes. it's a good thing, and a great drawing. ♥
XD Thanks! I'm really trying to get her line down, because I love it. I can get something near it that I like in pencil; I just have to try to get it in pen now. And to fake it in digital.
Hmm, I don't think this us necessarily better than the colored version. You're not giving yourself enough credit, really. The colors aren't as vivid as Minekura's, but I assume she's using a different medium, and there's no way you can mimic her work exactly (nor should you). Still, both are lovely. And is another reminder that there is a huge amount of room for growth in my own work.
I'm not trying to imitate her on the color - I'm trying to get ... something. Can't explain it. Part of it is that I have a hard time with adding deeper colors and using colors that harmonize, and with some painterly techniques in general. But I'm seriously considering this painting course that the shcool I work at offers through extended education next semester, so maybe that'd help. :D
I think I understand what you're trying to get at. Art classes, while helpful in certain areas, have never really worked well for me. But I might have just had aggravating teachers, so who knows. ^^;; Anyway, best of luck with your painting skills! Considering I have none, I find whatever you've got to be damn good.
:D I need someone to look over my shoulder and offer suggestions, or to push me in directions I'd never even think of on my own, because when left to myself I can't do that. :)
