Picspam

Family Christmas photos and a couple of others. And a poll! To force you to look a tpictures of total strangers BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL POLL SLUTS.

No kittyspam because my camera still does not work BUT MY NEW CAMERA IS ON THE WAY TO ME so expect kittyspam before too long.

It's too late to do anything like cropping to the photos, so you'll have to deal with the fact that they could all be improved mightily.

Captions welcome.

If any family members show up to look at these (because my grandfather sent them the URL, most likely :D), I can spell just fine. I just can't type. And it's 1 AM and I'm not going back to check the typoes because it will just depress me.

1. Not a family photo yet. Obviously. This was taken earlier this fall, on a trip home from my grandparents' house. It's a pipe. I big pipe. Yes, it was that close to the traffic lights - the perspective is not doing that much to it.

2. Still not family. This is a common sight in Texas - oil well. This one has a cow. It could be pupming either oil or naturl gas - there's a color tag on it somewhere. Yellow means one thing, orange means the other, and I've forgotten which is which. (This particular pump wasn't actually pumping - you can tell how the Texas economy is going by how many of the pumps are pupming as you drive by them on the highway.)

3. Another one, because YOU DEMANDED IT.

4. OK, not *of* family, but *by* family. My mom took this picture at Thansgiving, at my aunt and uncle's place in Wimberly, Texas. Their house has a river view, and this is the river.

5. Cristmas! Finally! My mother! Modeling a scarf she wove herself. She gave me the other one she did, after a pointed hint about how badly my wool coat scratches the back of my neck and how lovely it would be to have a scarf to protect it.

6. Finally! The poll! This is my cousin Zach (his mom and dad are the ones who have the river house). He, his sister, and his mom are all serious redheads.

[Poll #641223]

7. The tackiest Kleenex box cover EVAR. I was mollified to ehar it was some sort of white elephant Christmas thing, because I'd hate tot hink someone I was related to thought it was tasteful.

8. My family is so well-adjusted we have singalongs. We're like a Stepford family, in a way. My uncle Bob, cousin Zach, and his dad, my uncle Rick.

The others will go up in two more posts, since this is getting long and unwieldy to download.

1. Sign points to Austin in one direction - Backman?? the other way - what town was this taken in?

4. very nice picture - believe that is the Blanco River. It really is rather white upstream near its headwaters (closer to where my folks live).

6. & 8. - Zach's a good looking guy. Looks about the same age as my son (19-20). Your uncles are nice-looking guys too; love their hair.

7. OMG I LOVE this! Permission to download a copy?

1. Giddings, on highway 77, on the way from Victoria to College Station.

4. I think it's the Guadeloupe. If I'm remembering right.

6&8 That side of the family is all annoyingly good-looking. :) Zach's ... about that. His sister just graduated college, and she's 2 years older than him. I think he's 20. He's on the Trinity University football team - ah-ha! The team roster (http://www.trinity.edu/departments/athletics/Football/roster.htm) has him listed as 6'5" - Mom and I were trying to guess his height. I was right. :D

7. Absolutely! :D

1. I used to live there for a couple of years. Good riddance, I say. :)

2. & 3. Those are called Lufkin Pumps, officially. I only know that because one of the geocaches I found on Sunday was in one of them.

7. I want that. That's marvelous!

1. Ah yes Giddings - went through there many times too going between Corpus Christi and College Station.

2. & 3. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] tprjones, I had forgotten the name!

4. Pretty sure it is the Blanco (which empties into the Guadalupe). See http://www.visitwimberley.com/mapsLocal/map.shtml

5, 7, 8 and the other postings - your family is annoyingly good looking! Nice house there too. Hope you had a great time.

4. Yup, you're right - I was mixing them up with my grandparents' old cabin, which was indeed on the Guadelupe. They live in the area right around here (http://www.visitwimberley.com/mapsLocal/mapse.shtml), where 12 crosses the river.

5, 7, 8 And they're all tall and can sing, too! :D The house we were in for Christmas was my other uncle and aunt's house, the one in Houston, on Lake Houston (there's a serious affinity for water and water sports in that side if the family, if you hadn't figured that out yet). :D

1. The only thing that really attracts me about Giddings is that meat market on the corner there, when stopped at the traffic light next to it and the smell of barbecue wafts out into the car.

2 & 3. Cool. :)

7. Mom says it's in the Signals catalog (http://www.signals.com/signals/Item_Rudy-Tissue-Box-Cover_AQ5182_ps_srm.html).

OMG, i MUST have this. no, it's not tasteful, but the decor around here (*laughs uproariously at the idea of it being called "decor") isn't going for tasteful, *heh*. this is a perfect gift for the paramour. thank your mom for me. :)

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2009-10-19 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's no meat market, that's a BBQ pit. That's the one thing I miss about Giddings, is the meat that place serves. They cook the brisket for no less than nine hours before serving it to you. It's the most tender and tasty meat you'll ever have in your life.

Damn it. I need to make a roadtrip now.

STEPFORD FAMILY FOR THE WIN. Your mom's weaving is way pretty.
