O.o

I've got this weird little toy - don't know what it's called. It's a ball made of some sort of translucent stretchy stuff, tinted red, with a long tail made of the same stuff with a loop on the end you can use to put on your finger and do yo-yo type stuff with it. Inside the ball, floating in water or something, is a smaller plastic ball with a red flashy thing inside it. The red flashy thing flashes red when you hit it with a certain degree of force. It sits on a bookshelf on the other side of the room.

It's been flashing red randomly for a few days now, without being hit, touched, or disturbed in any way whatsoever. I assume it's due to the internal battery dying, but it's still odd and a bit creepy to see it go off at random times.

Hm. True, dat. I alternate between wanting to dissect it to see what makes it tick and wanting to keep it to play with. :) I'm surprised it's still flashing; it's ... *thinks* ... at least 3 years old, possibly 4.

Wow, that's like 75 in translucent-stretchy-stuff-ball years.

Don't be sad, it's lived a good long life.

Once it finally stops responding, I'll dissect it, I think. Until then, I've got two small green LEDs to play with from a floral arrangement - a couple of weekend ago I went down to Houston to go to a Christmas party for my friend Toby's work, and they bought tickets to Wicked for us, and had a reception beforehand. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page (http://www.888acolyte.com/floralyte.html) and look at the bottom pitcture, you can just barely make out rectangular glass vases with flowers, illuminated by blue LEDs at the bottom of the vase. We had similar ones, in green. (ah - looks almost, but not quite, like these (http://www.epartyunlimited.com/submersible-floralyte.html))

THe secretary gave me a centerpiece, so I took it. THe flowers were put into this clear gel stuff that looked like transparent cottage cheese and entertained me and Toby both for a bit because shaking the vase made the horrid squelching noises. But I got it out and fished out and wiped off the LEDs. You can turn them on and off, as well as replace the batteries, so I now have two of them to entertain myself with. XD
