Perseids
As you may have guessed from my previous post we’re at a cabin out of town to take advantage of the waning moon for the Perseid meteor shower this weekend.
We got up at 4:30 and stayed outside on the deck for about half an hour,
during which I saw about 6 or 7 meteors and
myrialux saw 5 or so. I also
spotted a satellite but it was too faint for me to easily point it out to
myrialux before it vanished.
The cabins are at a “ranch and refuge” where they have several species roaming, including a llama who disdained the shit out of me when we drove by, and a bison and a zebu who were hiding in the shadows next to the owners’ house.
The cabin also has its own wildlife who we have named Scorpion-Bob for the obvious reason. Scorpion-Bob lives in the bathroom sink, but the cabin is small enough that we just moved the soap and hand towel to the kitchenette sink rather than trying to figure out the best way of removing Scorpion-Bob from the cabin.
So thank you for your extermination service, Scorpion-Bob, and I hope your overflow drain home is cozy.
Seems to be a nice small Texas bark scorpion.

We currently have a small herd of horses outside: one is next to the cabin, probably scratching against it and hoping for a handout, with two more in the wooded area to the side.
