Tea review

And the tea I picked first to try from the list in the previous post...

Kenyan Purple Leaf Tea

Appearance: slightly redder/purplier than most, but also may be interacting with the building's water, which has been known to darken tea color and flatten flavor. I'm using a fountain with a filter on it, but I don't know how old the filter is or when it was last changed.

Scent: more vegetal than, say, Assam.

Mouthfeel: smooth, few tannins at first, but getting a bit tart as it cools. Might have let it steep too long accidentally. As it cools more, the tartness recedes, oddly enough, but still leaves a dryness on the tongue like when drinking red wine.

Taste: not as vegetal as it smells. Mostly inoffensive, but it's not my favorite. I'm missing a rounder, fuller flavor (why I like Assams). The lemon juice they suggest serving it with to enhance the color might help, but also might contribute to the tartness. I don't really get the floral notes that the full description mentions, but that might be an effect of the library's water, despite the filter on the fountain I get it from.

I'll have to try it with water from home, so the bag is coming home with me.
