A jump up the Who's Costing Us More leaderboard!
Cat story and photo of new library/dining room arrangement.
So of course Sora is the lead cat on the Who's Costing Us More leaderboard, with having to be medicated daily, boarded while we were in Chicago, and looking at iodine treatment in the near future.
The complacent look of a cost leader.

D.Va, apparently realizing she'd been snoozing on the job, decided it was her turn. We noticed her refusing food Sunday evening, and then through Monday, and throwing up a little. Otherwise, she seemed a bit lower-energy. We could entice her to play, but she wouldn't instigate it. She'd still chirp at the birds outside.
Tuesday morning, when it hadn't changed, we called the vet to ask if they had an appointment available or if we should take her to the emergency vet. They said to bring her in and they'd put her in one of their cat condos and she'd be looked at when they could. So that's what we did.
The first call we got from them--they said she seemed completely healthy from the outside, but were worried she'd eaten something inedible and wanted permission to X-ray. We gave it, of course. An hour or so later, they called back and said they couldn't see anything--the usual caveats of it's possible they could miss something, of course--and diagnosed a GI bug. They gave her fluids and antibiotics and anti-nausea meds, and sent more of the same plus probiotics home with us, along with a $380 bill (we are fortunate enough to be able to put plenty of money aside for the cats and do so monthly, so this is an annoyance, not a disaster).
Yay, she now is eating--she hoovered up several treats last night, ate some kibble (both the cats are currently off the wet food, but they go in spells of eating and not eating it, so I'm not suspecting it of anything), and this morning ate more. She's also much more active. Yay!
So she jumped up the Who's Costing Us More leaderboard, but is still not in a position to threaten Sora. Hopefully it stays this way. Sora spent last night following her around and hissing at her for daring to smell like the vet.
Right! D.Va pictures! These were taken right after Chicago, when she wouldn't let us out of her sight.

Playing a few nights ago. There's a toy above her head, which she is laser-focused on.

And yesterday, after coming home from her ordeal at the vet.

And that last pic leads us into the new library/dining room/gaming room! We were both too keyed up to work yesterday, so took the day off and kept our hands busy finishing it off. Only one photo, because I didn't think to take more, but you get the effect.

That's lit by spillover from the kitchen on the right, and mostly those bookcase lights you see hovering like little UFOs. They are surprisingly bright, and can be adjusted to aim in different directions, even up if you'd like more ambient light. The curtains on the left are hiding the bench that goes with the table when people are over and sitting at it, because the cats like to hide behind the curtain while they are looking out the window. We've got two more chairs elsewhere in the house.
I'm debating what to do with the space above the bookcases, as the ceiling is absurdly high (10-foot at the top of the tray inset! WHY?!). I'm considering framed pictures above it, like this or this or ... phooey, I can't find a good example what I'm thinking of, which is that old-timey library/museum looking thing where there's pictures hanging on straight chains/cables, looking a bit like a masonry layout on a webpage. (That's a type of image layout, not actual masonry.) Something like this image on Pinterest, but not quite? I think? Arg.
And because the builders and the people who lived here first assumed nobody would put furniture against the walls in this room (and that any table would be small, seating 6 people max), our table is not centered under the light, which is annoying because I'd love to put a chandelier/pendant light fixture something like this one over it (hanging down). And it's, like, a foot off center so it's not worth adding a new electrical box in the ceiling, especially since it's a tray ceiling and would look stupid being a foot off center. If I can find a linear fixture (with SHADES because I hate hotspots in my vision) that somehow hangs from a chain without spinning, we can put a swag hook in the ceiling to move it over, but I'm not sure that exists.
