Hey, knitters!

There's enough knitters here and people who know knitters ... can anyone help out with my frend [livejournal.com profile] mothoc's problem? He can't wear just any gloves because of Issues with his hands, so there's a bit of strange fitting there, but I figure someone here can help or knows someone who can...

I can only crochet. :(

Knitting...well, lets just say I tried. And nearly speared my dog throwing the needles across the room. I figured it wasn't worth my fuzzy mutt's life and gave up the good fight.

I can crochet as long as you want a very very thin line because I enver got the hang of turning corners. XD

Oh man... I haven't tried gauntlets yet so don't know if I could make up patterns =(. Alas, not quite there yet.

I'm planning to attempt a pair for an Xmas gift for him. But I wasn't going to say anything, in case I royally screwed it up.

But too late now.

Even if you screw up, he'll appreciate the intent. He's nice that way. Or at least very good at pretending he;s nice that way. :D

Well, any good knitter who can handle a glove pattern ought to be able to make him what he wants - just instead of finishing the glove fingers, get most of the way there and stop and bind off around instead of finishing and grafting them together. If he has sizing and fit issues, then it would especially need to be a knitter nearby with access to him and his hands. Although it might be easier in some ways, since length of the fingers would be one of the critical measurements usually, and for these the exact length at the ending point would be less important.

He's down in College Station, and I don't know of anyone there who knits, so hopefully I can get word out. He's got a couple of fingers that don't straighten fully and are a little bit thicker due to a congenital problem that no one would ever notice if he didn't tell them, because it's subtle, but it's just enough that more normal gloves don't fit, plus he's half a finger short due to an accident a decade or so ago.

This is exactly the kind of person who needs to hook up with a custom knitter.

Yes. Which is why I'm trying to find him one. :)

You are the most awesome person I know today. :) (You're consistently in the top ten, but today, you're the top)
