More Artbreeder gene fun
On my previous post about Artbreeder, I played about with one particular "gene"--the things they use to direct change towards or away from a specific direction--called "Hat." Today I've got a few more that I messed with a few days back and downloaded the resulting images, then utterly failed to do anything.
This is by no means all, or even all the funny ones. It's certainly not the human ethnic/genotype/whatever you want to call it ones, because those just make me sad, most especially because they presume white is the default, and every slider can go plus in the direction of Black, Latin/Hispanic (there is very little difference between those two, BTW, sigh), Asian, etc., or minus in the direction of their Generic White Person. Overall, if you want to create a non-white character you pretty much have to either upload some photos of your own or do a search in the tags for for "Black," "Ethiopian", "Japanese" etc. to find a variety of different expressions of those general ethnicities/genotypes/what-have-you, and combine those to come up with your character.
On to the more funny stuff!
Here is Basic Burn. I have used him as the base for all of these because why not.

First gene up: Age! Here I am going backwards.

First pic: Basic Burn. Next, he is de-aged by 1.5. Lookin' pretty nice as a younger man, there. Then we go to -1, Burn as a sullen teenager. And then to -2, Burn as an annoying little kid.
At some point I'd discovered that while the SLIDER only went to 2 or -2, I could TYPE IN a different number! So the last picture in this series is -3, Burn as a sniveling little kid whose mouth appears to be splitting open to reveal the light of God or some such.
And because I know you'll all ask, here is the last recognizably vaguely human version of de-aged Burn, at a full -5 where he is merely a hint of possibility floating in the primordial sea of chaos that we all come from before birth.

And here we are going the other way, Age +1, +2 and +10, where we discover that what we thought was his hair is actually a parasitic infestation that has consumed him from the inside out.

What shall we play with next? How about...Earring???
This is Burn with +1, +2, +5 and +10 Earring in order, as he slowly becomes more punk until he is fully charged and ready to blow.

And then Earring Minus, which is nowhere near as exciting:

You'll note that this also reveals a bit about the Artbreeder training methodology: he gets younger as he gets more Earring and older as he gets less because, I suspect, in the original training data, people with earrings also tend to be younger. They also tend to be wearing makeup, I bet, as his skin smooths out.
And now for a slight spectrum, Blond onthe left and Blue-Eyed on the right, which goes to show you that I expect a lot of celebrity photos were in their training data, because Burn tends to turn into Malcolm McDowell if you make him either More Blond or More Blue-Eyed. Until he is so Blue-Eyed that he starts to become Christopher Lloyd.

What next? Well, Burn is indeed relatively angry at a lot of things, although mostly himself, so let use try the ANGER gene.

If I recall correctly, that is +1, +2, +3, +10 and finally +50 wherein Burn becomes the personification of rage. But has has to become an anime character on the way there.
And next up is GLASSES. It took a bit to get glasses actually ON Burn, but once they were there they escalated quickly, from Intellectual to NPR Host to Philip Johnson: +1, +1.3, +1.5, +2

And now I shall leave you with a good one, the gene for EYES OPEN.
Here Burn is opening his eyes and taking in the world until he can pierce the veil that lies between us and the sheer roiling eldritch-ness of reality.

And now Burn takes the opposite journey, as Eyes Open goes into negative numbers, and he turns his gaze inward, seeking solitude and peace, eventually to find enlightenment and then depart this vale of tears into Nirvana.

Or his eyes begin to shoot lasers. Whichever.
