What are these greens?

Hijacking the Insta feed for my covers/art business to ask a burning question: what are these greens that arrived in the CSA box labeled “Greens: Farmer’s Choice”?

Red kale?

They do look pretty kale like. But there are plenty of kale relatives that have edible and tasty leaves - Brussels sprout leaves are surprisingly delicious! So it might be some sort of kale cousin or kale cross, not straight up kale.

I agree with everyone else, they do look kale-y-ish and there are a lot of kale relatives... And they look familiar, but I can't place 'em and my veggie cookbooks are still packed away.

There is a quick supermarket run-through scheduled for tomorrow; I'll try to swing through the veggies and see if there's anything similar there.

(We don't get our CSA boxes until May/June. Wah ~)

LOL on the CSA explanation - yeah, that would be a little hard to just drop into the conversation. :D

So - I was in the supermarket today, although it was the one that packages everything this time of year (so it's all chopped up and behind plastic). Some things just aren't going to be there for several months. My guess would be if it's not kale, it's most likely a form of chard. Hope that helps!

Red chard.

It’s hard to tell color and texture from the photo, but I’m guessing chard. Especially if the texture of the leafy part is like spinach, and the central ribs are kind of translucent (the way celery is translucent) color other than green. If it’s chard it’ll taste like spinach with a note of beet.
