Some presumably Portuguese jerk signed up for a trial subscription to a Portuguese streaming music site, so I've been getting all sorts of email from them trying to sell me on getting a subscription.

I just told them I lost my password, they sent me a new link, and I changed the jerk's password, then unsubscribed from everything and consigned all the messages to spam.

My internet dopperganger long long ago signed up for Facebook using my email address. I received every one of her notifications for years. I don't have Facebook, but I watched as Facebook invited her to befriend my real-life friends. Finally I went into her account through an email link and turned off all notifications.

Now whenever she tries to sign up for another service through her Facebook account the confirmation emails come to me. One exciting weekend I refused over 20 Instagram accounts. (Then made my own gosh-darn Instagram.)

I still get a forlorn New Password Link email every year or so.

Nice! One has to wonder what people think when they sign up for something with an address they think is theirs but isn't. I've read anecdotes over on Metafilter and Reddit where occasionally someone whose email address is used tries to use the account or whatever it is to let the person know they used the wrong email to sign up with, and then they get accused of hacking. :/

YES. And Gmail sent the next email from the site directly to spam instead of putting it my inbox, so yay!

I have the obvious gmail address for my name, and I am constantly unsubscribing to things, deleting accounts, etc. Bless every site that requires email confirmation before doing anything further.

Yes! It's annoying when you have to confirm...but when you're the one getting the deluge, not so much. XD

LOL, I had this with Ubisoft once or some other gaming company, and getting the account deleted, got a huffy email from the original owner insisting I had hacked him. Yes, dude, I cleverly hacked you when you accidentally used the wrong email address to sign up.
