A few things
Is it just me or is the woman on the cover of An Heiress to Remember, first pic here on SBTB, standing at 90° to her own dress? From the waist up she's facing the camera, but from the waist down, she's facing to our right...
how the hell did that photoshop pass review?
Also, I have achieved sourdough starter rise! FINALLY
This is the originally-buckwheat-pineapple-juice starter, now 50/50 whole wheat and white flour, running on bottled water.

The blue tape with illegible markings on the left is yesterday and the blue tape with illegible markings on the right is today. FINALLY
Yesterday, after noticing telltale marks of rise and fall on the glass the day before, I marked it at 3:30pm. And then forgot to check it again until 6, when it had risen and then fallen a bit. Today it peaked at 11AM and is now starting to show signs of falling a bit.
Last night I dumped the two white flour starters, since they were looking (and smelling) worse, while this one was getting better and better. Once the two containers get run through the dishwasher, I'm going to divide the surviving starter and run one on bottled water and one on tap to see if there really is a difference, since my previous bottled-vs.-tap experiment failed.
Serious Eats is posting an updated sourdough starter series: The Science of Sourdough Starter, Sourdough Starter Recipe and The Best Flour for Sourdough Starters: An Investigation.
Tonight is pizza again, using dough left over from the loaf I baked on Monday. Pepperoni, plus whatever we can put on it from our CSA box and some leftover ham. Maybe a bit of prosciutto, too, that we bought to eat CSA pears with exactly as they stopped sending them to us.

edit: Thank you! :) They doubled again this morning--I split it into Tap Water and Bottled Water test starters after pulling out enough for another batch of crackers--so I haven't killed it yet!
