It's heeeeeeeeeeere!
My BPAL box o'goodness was here when I got home!
I ordered 5ml bottles of Midway and House of Mirrors unsniffed, since I didn't have time to buy or swap for decants before they went off sale, since they were limited edition. A quick sniff of the bottles shows that the one I was a bit leery of - House of Mirrors - smells pretty good, while Midway - the one I thought I'd love - has a note that may not agree with me. But I can't say for sure on either until I test them.
I also ordered three imps to test - Thanatos, Dee, and Les Infortunes de la Vertu, which I haven't sniffed yet. And they sent me four freebie imps. The Lab yet again shows that whoever's in charge of tossing in the frimps has a sense of humor:
Pannychis: An attendant of the Goddess Venus. She presides over nocturnal pleasure, nighttime festivities, and all the joy and delight that can be found in the darkness. In later ages, it became the name of the all-night festival that closed the Eleusinian Mysteries. Night-blooming jasmine, moonflower, cardamom, sandalwood, black currant, ylang ylang, frankincense and lily. (Gender neutral) (Uh-oh: jasmine. I'm afraid that it will give me the sneezes)
Libertine: Like a puffed and reckless libertine,
Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads.
Rosewood and chamomile with bergamot, violet, red sandalwood, primrose and Arabian musk. (Gender neutral) (O dear: musk)
Loviatar: The Finnish Goddess of Agony, Torment and the joy found in inflicting pain on others. The Mistress of Torture, she has transformed in the modern era into the patron Goddess of Dominatrixes. The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh. (O dear: musk)
Pain: Wicked and vicious! A sharp, cruel blend of lavender and pennyroyal. (Well, lavender's not my fave)
I'm not optimistic about liking any of them, but I do seem to sense a theme here...
I also got something I'd ordered from a new UK company that's setting themselves up on the BPAL business model: mail-order perfume blends with evocative descriptions. You can see their (currently few) wares over at
beyondpale. I ordered Strumpet, described as "A saucy blend of rich chocolate, ripe cherry & vanilla musk, blended with pure sandalwood & vetiver for sensual, long-lasting warmth, pure jojoba base. Utterly addictive - redolent of sin." I was a bit nervous about the musk, but... I've tried a couple of blends with light musk that worked fine - the dark musks turn into O MY GOD GET IT OFF ME NOW - and I know that the chocolate/sandalwood combo works wonders on me, so I figured it was worth a try, and if not I'd swap imps of it.
I bought it on the 10th. I got it today - transatlantic. Impressive! And it comes in a nifty gift box with a bit of padding and silk inside, that ties shut. It's already quite the spiffy purchase. I haven't tried it on my skin yet, but popping the cap and sniffing shows that it's quite lovely in the bottle. Here's hoping the musk doesn't explode!

(Although a quick sniff-test of the imps leads me to believe that leather is a NO NO NO scent for me...)
