*sigh*
OK, time to tell everyone about the amazingly cool job it looks like I have failed to be hired for.
About three weeks ago I did a phone interview for a position with the Smithsonian. No, it *wasn't* the first-round interviews, it was the actual interview (and to all the poeple who are thinking that *they* wouldn't hire someone without a face-to-face interview, let me point out they spcifically told me that this was *the* interview and they wanted to make their decision by the next week, because the director of the project was heading to Kenya for his fieldwork the next week, and they wanted it taken care of by then).
It was, essentially, the person coding the PHP interface for a database of archaeological, geological, and environmental data for the Human Origins Project. They needed someone who could both code PHP (a skill I've got through my MLIS and Digital Imaging certificate), *and* someone who knew anthropological classification (I've got a BA and MA in Anthro).
They ahd three candidates, I was the first one interviewed. They liked my resume, but apparently someone else impressed them more since it's been three weeks and I've heard nothing back, after they told me they were making the decision the next week.
(OK, admittedly they haven't called me or sent a letter to tell me that they *don't* want me yet, but I would prefer not to keep my hopes up at this point in time, because they will crash that much further when the letter *does* arrive. :) SO you're not allowed to say things like "Well, the federal government is slow on these things." They may be, but I'd prefer to be pleasantly surprised later if a miracle *does* happen. :)
