Our older cat, Nefer, isn't doing so well. She's got kidney disease and may have crossed over from stage 3 to stage 4 recently. Her arthritis is also really bad and we think she's in a lot of pain.
We have a vet appointment for her on Monday, and until then we had some gabapentin prescribed for her left over from a vet visit a couple of months ago--she'd been so feisty and opinionated that they couldn't safely draw blood, so we had to book another appointment and give her the gabapentin beforehand to calm her down. We've given her some today, because she was showing signs of wanting to leave
myrialux's office and hang out with us in the living room, but would only go a few feet at a time before stopping to rest. After the gabapentin, she came partially down the hall, clambered onto a cardboard scratcher shaped like a chaise, and fell asleep.
So I am expecting that we'll probably be making the call tomorrow afternoon. If it's possible to give her some painkillers and get a few more days or weeks for her, since she shows signs of wanting to interact with us, maybe we'll do that, but I'm not particularly optimistic about that.
